Job Summary

Are you a passionate fourth-year audiology student looking for an exceptional externship opportunity for the academic year? We invite you to join our dynamic team of audiologists and otolaryngologists at our Rockwall location, with occasional travel to our Forney location. Your role will encompass comprehensive diagnostic audiological evaluations for patients of all ages, including audiograms, tympanometry, OAEs and hearing aid evaluations and fittings with predominately adults.

Does the externship site provide orientation to relevant clinical policies and procedures? Yes Does the externship site provide instructions about patient's rights and providing patient education? Externship site expects the extern to have mastered these skills before they begin their clinical externship:
•Otoscopy

•Tympanometry

•Distortion product otoacoustic emission (DPOAE) testing

•Comprehensive audiological evaluations with basic masking

•Basic diagnostic interpretation abilities

•Earmold impressions

•Real ear verification (set up)

•Some hearing aid troubleshooting (any manufacturer) Externship site expects the extern to learn/demonstrate these skills during their clinical externship:
•Proficiency in all the above skills as well as:

•Comprehensive audiological evaluations, diagnostic interpretation, and effective counseling for more complicated hearing losses

•Hearing aid consultations, fittings, verification, troubleshooting, repairs, follow-ups

•Tinnitus management

•Confidence working with patients of all ages

•Ability to work independently in a fast-paced environment
