The Role and the Team

The Competitive Intelligence team plays a vital role in ensuring the most relevant insight into our competitors and differentiation is available across the company. This team develops a deep technical and strategic understanding of the competitive landscape to effectively monitor, position, and win deals against the competition. This group also works cross-functionally with product management, engineering, sales, customer success, and marketing to improve our differentiation plan and enhance our position in the market.

The Competitive Sales Specialist is a critically strategic role dedicated to ensuring the most relevant business insight is available to senior executives and Sales organization, as well as providing actionable intelligence about the competitor landscape. This individual, along with the rest of the Competitive Intelligence team provides both technical and strategic understanding of our competitors, so that our sales organization is well positioned to win competitive deals. You will also work cross-functionally with Product Management, Engineering, Sales, and Marketing to help shape our product roadmap, improve our differentiation plan, and enhance our position in the market.

Job Requirements

  • Gather and interpret relevant market data to provide actionable insights for decision-making
  • Provide Sales Specialist support partnering with a dedicated Competitive Sales Engineer for both Enterprise Account Managers and Sales Engineers across the United States
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams (e.g. Sales, Product, Marketing) to understand and ensure competitive differentiation for Proofpoint products; be an expert on Proofpoint competition and how to beat them
  • Prepare and analyze reports on competitive metrics
  • Develop and maintain competitive content (e.g. sales messaging, battlecards, competitive responses, customer presentations, etc.)
  • Experience in Sales Operations, Sales or Product Marketing within the cyber-security market.
  • Ability to drive strategic initiatives and work with executive leadership
  • Excellent problem solving and analytical skills.
  • Outstanding presentation and communication skills, both verbal and written
  • Ability to balance multiple projects simultaneously
  • Previous experience developing reports in Excel and fully conversant with Salesforce (experience of data visualization tools such as PowerBI is a plus)
