Position Overview:

We are seeking a dynamic and experienced Vice President of Finance to join our team. The VP of Finance will be responsible for overseeing all aspects of financial management and strategy. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in fund management, real estate, and private equity finance, with a proven ability to drive financial performance and optimize operational efficiency.

 

Responsibilities:

Financial Reporting and Compliance:

  • Oversee the preparation and presentation of management company financial statements, reports, and analyses
  • Review the financial statements produced by the fund administrators, property managers and/or operating partners and management teams for reasonability and compliance with regulatory requirements and accounting standards
  • Manage relationships with external fund administrators, external auditors, tax preparers, and internal teams to meet all monthly, quarterly and annual reporting requirements
  • Supervise fund accounting, audit, and tax processes and coordinate with external administrator on reporting, taxes and audit
  • Maintain organizational accounting policies and procedures including for asset valuations
  • Maintain robust internal controls to safeguard company assets and mitigate financial risks

Budgeting and Forecasting:

  • Lead the annual budgeting process and ongoing forecasting activities of the management company
  • Develop and continually improve budgeting, financial projections, and operating forecasts
  • Provide monthly and ad hoc financials and related reporting to the company leadership with variances to budget
  • Provide support and participate in capital call, distribution and cash reserve planning

Treasury and Cash Management:

  • Prepare and maintain cash flow projections and daily cash management including any LP activity (i.e.: capital calls/subscription and distributions)
  • Project cash generation and utilization and propose quarterly distribution amounts
  • Oversee banking relationships and reserve cash
  • Implement strategies to optimize cash efficiency and minimize financial risk

Insurance/Risk Management:

  • Oversee the property and company insurance programs to insure appropriate coverage of all assets
  • Oversee the claims process (with outsourced TPA)
  • Oversee implementation of best practices in risk mitigation across the portfolios

Principals & Family Accounting:

  • Flow the partnership-level accounting into individual statements for the principals and family members
  • Ensure compliance with all estate planning (typically annual note payments, note balance tracking, etc.)
  • Provide materials to (external) tax preparers

 

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Finance, Accounting, or related field; MBA or advanced degree preferred.
  • CPA or CFA designation preferred
  • Minimum of 6 years of experience in finance or accounting roles, with at least 3 years in real estate investment or related industry
  • Dependable, great attitude, team player with a strong work ethic
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to build relationships and influence key stakeholders
  •  Ability to work independently, to manage multiple tasks, and to thrive in a changing, fast-paced environment
  • Superior attention to detail and ability to successfully manage multiple competing priorities while maintaining a view of the big picture
  • Advanced excel skills
  • Willingness to work in our office in Pasadena, CA on a hybrid basis as determined by management from time to time (currently 3 days/week in office)
