Position:

The Boston Area Based Business Development Manager will be responsible for acquiring new customers and generating revenue for Conigen. The BDM will be a field based role and will build relationships with new and existing customers, generate leads, and close business for Conigen’s catalog, custom and service business. The BDM will possess the scientific and business acumen and communication skills to interface with scientists and members of leadership including senior scientists and leadership level contacts to determine their needs and position Conigen as the best solution provider.  


Key Responsibilities:

• Acquire new customers and generate revenue to meet assigned targets

• Develop a sales strategy for the overall territory and for key accounts within the territory

• Expert understanding of every stage of the sales process to qualify and prioritize activities to maximize efficiently and results

• Generate leads through their network and a variety of tools including LinkedIn, Trade Shows, customer events and other online and in-person tools.

• Manage the sales process and pipeline of existing customer base and target accounts for future growth through CRM and other tools.

• Meet with customers and prospects both in person and virtually to analyze customer needs and recommend the Conigen solution to close the sale.

• Work collaboratively with the sales team, marketing, product and leadership to coordinate activities, provide voice of customer and generate compelling messages that resonate with customers

• Generates and shares best practices, market trends, and competitor information with the rest of sales and marketing team

• Stays current with the competitive landscape and business trends

• Other duties as assigned.


Skills: 

• Ability to manage the sales process from lead to close and delivery.

• Understand potential customer’s research goals and communicate how Conigen’s products can help them achieve these goals

• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

• Strong skills and experience in giving scientific presentations to laboratory and departmental audiences

• A customer centric mindset to provide the best possible experience to our customers

• Ability to work independently in a fast paced entrepreneurial environment.

• Knowledge of and expertise in online systems including CRM, MS Office and other tools


Qualifications: 

• PhD or MS in biology or a related life sciences field. Advanced degree such as a masters or PhD preferred

• Three to five years of sales experience in life science tools or contract research services 

• Strong understanding of scientific terminology, lab techniques and workflows in the biopharma and academic settings

• Good network of customers within biopharma with a proven track record of developing new business and new markets 

• Experience with reagent sales

• Understand potential customer’s research goals and communicate how Conigen’s products can help them achieve these goals

• Experience with sales automation and CRM tools 

• Diligence, confidence and exceptional listening skills required

• Will need to travel up to 50% including overnight travel outside of the greater Boston area.

Initial focused sales activities will be in the greater Boston area. Field based with ability to travel throughout North America
