Our client is a Design/Build contractor based in Lansing, MI. They focus in both private and public sector projects. They've been in business for over 30 years and have continued to grow due to reputation and branding.


They are seeking an experienced Construction Estimator, who can manage estimating for various types of projects, including industrial, commercial, and government contracts.


Job Summary

As a Construction Estimator, you will play a critical role in determining project costs for both private and public construction projects. You will be responsible for developing accurate, detailed cost estimates and ensuring that all factors are considered, including labor, materials, equipment, and subcontractor services. The ideal candidate will have experience in both public and private sector projects, with a strong knowledge of government regulations and compliance for public bidding.


Key Responsibilities

  • Prepare detailed and accurate cost estimates for a variety of construction projects, including public works, commercial buildings, and industrial developments.
  • Develop competitive bids and proposals for public and private sector projects, adhering to specific requirements and regulations.
  • Perform quantity takeoffs for all aspects of the project, including materials, labor, and equipment.
  • Solicit and analyze quotes from suppliers and subcontractors to ensure competitive pricing and adherence to project specifications.
  • Review architectural plans, specifications, and other project documents to ensure accuracy in the estimating process.
  • Work closely with project managers, engineers, and other team members to ensure estimates align with project goals and timelines.
  • Assist in project budgeting and forecasting by providing detailed cost breakdowns and financial analysis.
  • Ensure estimates comply with local, state, and federal guidelines, especially for public sector projects.
  • Present estimates to clients and address any questions or concerns they may have about project costs.


Qualifications

  • Minimum of 3-5 years of experience as a construction estimator, with a focus on both private and public sector projects.
  • Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, or a related field is preferred.
  • Proficient in estimating software (such as Bluebeam, ProEst, or PlanSwift), and strong knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, etc.).
  • In-depth understanding of public bidding processes and compliance requirements, as well as private sector procurement and project management.
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy in preparing estimates and bids.
  • Ability to identify and mitigate potential risks that could impact project costs or timelines.
  • Familiarity with Lansing-area construction regulations, suppliers, and subcontractors is a plus.
