Position Summary:

The Certified Ophthalmic Assistant II supports physicians in providing patient care by preparing patients for examinations and diagnostic testing.

Position Key Accountabilities:
  • Responsible for organizing and preparing exam rooms for patients, while also maintaining instruments and equipment.

  • Assists in the preparation of patients for physician examinations and conducts testing based on patient needs and physician preferences.

  • Aids in coordinating patient care and follow-up, including major/minor procedures and diagnostic testing. Also assists Ophthalmologists during surgical procedures when needed.

  • Maintains the operating room following sterile techniques, including scrubbing, gowning, and gloving procedures.

  • Performs any other duties as assigned.

Certification/Skills:

Requires a current Ophthalmic Assistant Certification (COA, COT, or COMT) OR CPR Certification.

Minimum Education:

High School Diploma or equivalent.

Minimum Experience:

Two years of clinical experience in Ophthalmology. Completion of an accredited Ophthalmology program may be considered in place of the experience requirement. Suitable years of additional education beyond the minimum requirement can also be a substitute.

Physical Requirements:

Must be able to exert up to 20 pounds of force occasionally, up to 10 pounds frequently, and a negligible amount constantly to move objects.

Security Sensitive:

This job class may include security-sensitive positions, thus subject to the regulations of Texas Education Code § 51.215.

Residency Requirement:

Applicants must permanently reside and work within the State of Texas.
