Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and detail-oriented Certified Ophthalmic Assistant II to join our team at UTHealth Houston. As a key member of our ophthalmology department, you will play a vital role in providing exceptional patient care and supporting our physicians in delivering top-notch medical services.

Key Responsibilities
  • Prepare Exam Rooms and Equipment: Ensure that exam rooms are thoroughly cleaned and equipped with necessary instruments and supplies.
  • Assist with Patient Care: Prepare patients for physician exams, perform testing as needed, and assist with minor procedures.
  • Organize Patient Care and Follow-up: Assist with planning and coordinating patient care, including scheduling appointments and follow-up visits.
  • Maintain Sterile Technique: Ensure that the operating room is maintained according to sterile technique, and assist with scrubbing, gowning, and gloving procedures.
  • Perform Other Duties: Assist with other duties as assigned by physicians and department leadership.
Requirements
  • Certification: Current Ophthalmic Assistant Certification (COA, COT, or COMT) or CPR Certification.
  • Education: High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Experience: Two (2) years of clinical experience in ophthalmology, or completion of an accredited program in ophthalmology.
