Position Summary

The University of New Mexico's Office of Compliance, Ethics, and Equal Opportunity (CEEO) seeks a Compliance Specialist experienced in conducting investigations from start to finish, interpreting and analyzing policies, and providing technical advice in the areas of Equal Employment Opportunity (EEO), Affirmative Action, Title IX, Title VII, the Americans with Disabilities Act, and various other compliance areas. Responsibilities:
  • Determining, gathering, and analyzing evidentiary information necessary to evaluate compliance issues
  • Conducting unbiased investigations of alleged civil rights discrimination and preparing investigative reports
  • Creating, developing, and delivering a range of promotional, educational, and informational programs, workshops, and resource materials related to program activities and initiatives
  • Interpreting, analyzing, and advising on the application of compliance and civil rights laws and regulations in an employment and academic setting in accordance with federal, state, and local laws and guidelines, and UNM policies and procedures
The selected candidate must possess strong communication skills and the ability to work effectively with a wide range of constituencies in a diverse community. The ideal candidate will be self-motivated, team player, and must be able to multi-task and handle confidential material in a professional manner.

Conditions of Employment

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor's degree;at least 3 years of experience directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified.

Completed degree(s) from an accredited institution that are above the minimum education requirement may be substituted for experience on a year for year basis.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Ability to investigate and analyze information and draw conclusions.
  • Ability to interpret, analyze, and advise on the application of civil rights and compliance policies and regulations in the employment and academic settings.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.
  • Demonstrated commitment to diversity, social justice and civil rights work.
  • Experience investigating concerns related to discrimination, failure to accommodate, Title IX, sexual harassment or sexual assault.
  • Ability to develop and present educational programs and/or workshops.
  • Ability to handle multiple tasks with time sensitive deadlines with minimal supervision.
  • Legal knowledge including paralegal or JD course work.
  • Bilingual (English/Spanish)
