About the Role

This position is part of the Audit and Compliance Division (ACD) at the State of New Mexico, responsible for enforcing compliance with New Mexico tax laws.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide exceptional customer service to State of New Mexico taxpayers, responding to inquiries and resolving issues in a timely and professional manner.
  • Analyze tax data to identify areas of non-compliance and develop strategies to improve efficiency and streamline processes.
  • Collaborate with colleagues to develop new compliance programs and tax collection initiatives, promoting voluntary compliance through education and outreach.
  • Take enforcement actions on delinquent accounts, including collection functions and legal actions, as prescribed by policy and procedure.
Requirements
  • Associate's Degree in Accounting, Mathematics, or Business Administration, with six semester hours of accounting and two years of experience in bookkeeping, accounting, finance, auditing, collections, and/or tax-related fields.
  • Two years of experience in bookkeeping, accounting, finance, auditing, collections, and/or tax-related fields may substitute for the associate's degree.
  • Experience interacting with the public, working in high-pressure/high-stress situations, and working with New Mexico Taxation and Revenue (TRD) statutes and regulations.
Working Conditions

This role requires working in an office setting, with extensive personal computer and telephone usage, and occasional travel within the state and out of state.
