The Vice President of Student Services (VPSS) serves as the Chief Student Services Officer (CSSO) and student support leader of the College.

Reporting to the College President and serving as a member of the Senior Staff, this position is regularly involved in developing strategies and action plans for effective use of funds and other resources to assure viable operations of the College and District.

The VPSS provides leadership and direction of all Student Services and Equity programs, including oversight of planning and budgeting, selection of staff, and accountability for assigned categorical programs.

The VPSS plans, organizes, and directs LACC's comprehensive student services program, which includes counseling, admissions and records, veterans program, student life, outreach, student government, financial aid, EOPS, CalWORKs, student grievance, disciplinary process, DSPS, career and transfer center and more.

The VPSS provides direct supervision for all student services administrators and champions the vision, mission, and goals of the college and Student Services.

The VPSS serves on and works with other Senior Staff to lead and support the planning and implementation of collegewide programs and initiatives, including institutional transformational efforts.

The VPSS serves as an effective change agent in creating a campus environment that is welcoming, nurturing, and one where all students and employees matter.

The VPSS works collaboratively with the College's diverse stakeholders to develop and implement innovative approaches to provide a student-centered learning environment focused on removing institutional barriers to student access and success, and thereby, assisting to close the achievement gap.

The position also provides highly responsible and complex administrative support to the President and may serve as the College's chief administrative officer in the absence of the President.




REQUIRED MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:


  • Master's degree from a regionally accredited institution, AND
  • One (1) year of formal training, internship, or leadership experience reasonably related to the administrator's assignment, AND
  • Demonstrated cultural competency, sensitivity to, and understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, and ethnic backgrounds of community college students and staff.
GENERAL REQUIREMENTS

Health:

A medical certificate indicating fitness to engage in administrative work is required for new employees at the applicant's expense after selection and before employment.

Pursuant to LACCD Board of Trustee's Policy 2900, all students and employees must be fully vaccinated or have an approved exemption.

LACCD employees are required to provide their vaccination status in compliance with the LACCD Board of Trustees' policy.

Newly hired employees will be required to provide their vaccination status prior to starting a position or, at the latest, by their position start date.




DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:


  • An earned doctorate from an accredited college or university.
  • Five years of increasingly responsible higher education management experience in development, organization, and administration in the student services areas, preferably at a community college.
  • Evidence of an understanding of and experience with the principles of participatorygovernance and principles of effective participation.
  • Evidence of working cooperatively and productively with internal and external constituencies and advocating for participatory governance, collegiality, staff cohesiveness, and for the core values of the institution.

  • In-depth knowledge of matriculation and articulation regulations, including high school to college and university transfer.
  • Knowledge of student health promotion and resources, including mental health services.
  • In-depth knowledge of campus policing including the Clery Act, student behavioral intervention, student crisis assessment and response, and emergency operations planning and utilization.
  • Working knowledge of the budget preparation and its administration.
  • Skill in organizing work and building an effective team to respond to student needs.

DUTIES, RESPONSIBILITIES, AND EXPECTATIONS OF THE

POSITION:


  • Administer a comprehensive student services program and its related departments; direct the implementation of new programs and services; evaluate and recommend revision of policies and procedure
  • Select, supervise, and evaluate student services personnel which may include both credentialed counseling and classified employees; make staff assignments in accordance with established district policy; plan and coordinate orientation and in-service education for professional development of assigned staff.
  • Analyze problems, identify alternative solutions, project consequences of proposed actions and implement recommendations in support of goals.
  • Conduct appropriate processes related to student discipline, student grievance, and due process; coordinate and facilitate the resolution of student, instructor, and staff conflicts, complaints, and grievances.
  • Forecast current and future needs and costs affecting student services division.
  • Evaluate technology-based solutions.
  • Coordinate and direct special projects as assigned; initiate studies and conduct analyses as necessary to determine the need for new or modified course offerings, programs, or services.
  • Communicate clearly, concisely and effectively, both orally and in writing, with diverse constituencies within and outside of the District.
  • Establish goals and objectives for the division; initiate and participate in program planning; assess needs for programs and services; facilitate their development and implementation in accordance with established guidelines and budgets.

COMPENSATION and BENEFITS

LACCD determines placement on the pay scale depending on verified education and experience.

Current starting annual salary range is from:

SELECTION PROCEDURES:

  • A screening committee with representation from the administration, faculty, and classified staff will screen and evaluate all complete applications submitted by the deadline.
