About the internship

The Human Rights Watch (HRW) is offering a paid internship and seeking law students or graduates to intern in New York, USA. Hence, if you are looking for a paid internship in the United States, apply for this internship opportunity and join the New York office of the Human Rights Watch.

Through this internship, the intern will explore international courts and international justice systems and mechanisms. The intern will grab a chance to develop his/her skills in advocacy, writing, and legal research. In addition, the interns will take part in different activities during the internship while attending workshops, training, lectures, and other events relating to human rights.

Program focus

The focus of the program will be on supervising international law developments in targeted country conditions, conducting desk research, and drafting papers concerning issues of international justice.

Deadline: September 16, 2020

Beginning of the program: Late September or Early October

Duration: 3 months

Working hours per week: minimum 15

Location: New York, USA

  • Performing legal research
  • Analyzing international law

  • Analyzing the international justice developments process
  • Outlining the important point of international justice
  • Recording the case research
  • Documenting advocacy-style documents
  • Gaining familiarity with the Rome Statute
  • Developing the skills of deep attention to the footnoting and fact-checking
  • Reporting and presenting in a compelling manner in internal drafts
  • Close supervision and evaluation sessions to provide feedback and support

Qualifications:
  • Students' background must be in law (either an LLB, LLM, JD, or relevant degree)
  • Enrollment in a prestigious, degree-granting graduate or law program for the duration of the internship t;
  • Have a high interest in international criminal justice, human rights, and a demonstrated commitment to human rights
  • Preference will be given to relevant course work.
  • Knowledge of French is a plus
  • Have a good computer and internet application skills
