Internship Overview:
This is an UNPAID internship opportunity aimed at providing valuable experience in educational support within the IRC’s Adult Education program.
Position Summary:
The ESL Program Support Intern will assist the lead ESL instructor in delivering engaging and interactive online English classes tailored for refugees and immigrants. This role involves contributing to the development of student-centered lessons, managing administrative tasks, leading activities, and facilitating conversation practice.
Key Responsibilities:
* Collaborate with the lead instructor to conduct ESL classes for immigrants and newly arrived refugees, utilizing interactive and learner-focused methodologies.
* Maintain accurate attendance records for all classes.
* Assist in evaluating students' progress through post-testing at the course's conclusion.
* Aid in lesson preparation by creating engaging and interactive activities.
* Conduct outreach to students to encourage consistent attendance.
* Participate in regular meetings with the lead instructor for guidance and instructional support.
* Provide additional group tutoring sessions for students as needed.
Learning Outcomes:
1. Acquire skills in managing a diverse classroom with students from various backgrounds and English proficiency levels.
2. Gain experience in collaborative lesson planning and execution with a team.
3. Develop strategies to engage a diverse group of enthusiastic learners from multiple countries.
Qualifications:
* Prior experience in teaching ESL to adults is preferred, along with a bachelor's degree.
* Experience working with adult learners from diverse backgrounds, including those with limited formal education or literacy skills.
* Strong classroom management abilities and confidence in facilitating both large and small group sessions.
* Capacity to work independently and collaboratively in a dynamic, fast-paced environment.
* Must demonstrate reliability, responsibility, and commitment to the internship through its duration.
* Proficiency in Spanish, Ukrainian, Russian, or Dari is advantageous.
