Job Summary

Columbia University seeks a highly skilled and dedicated individual to serve as the Managing Director of the Human Rights Institute (HRI). The successful candidate will be responsible for leading the strategic direction and day-to-day operations of HRI, a leading institution in the field of human rights.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop and implement a comprehensive strategy for HRI's educational, scholarship, and advocacy programs.
  • Manage and lead a team of staff and faculty to advance HRI's mission and goals.
  • Build and maintain relationships with key stakeholders, including university administrators, faculty, and external partners.
  • Oversee the development and implementation of HRI's budget and financial plans.
  • Represent HRI at Columbia University and in the broader human rights community.
Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree required; advanced degree preferred.
  • Minimum of 4-6 years of experience in human rights, public interest, or social justice.
  • Demonstrated commitment to human rights and social justice.
  • Excellent leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to think strategically and work effectively in a fast-paced environment.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Substantive knowledge of human rights issues and experience in program management.
  • Experience with fundraising and grant writing.
  • Excellent computer skills and proficiency with Microsoft Office and other software applications.
