Opportunity Summary
Manhattan Justice Opportunities is an innovative program designed to create a more responsive justice system in Manhattan. The program serves as a centralized hub for screening and referring individuals involved in the criminal justice process, providing them with access to essential social services.
The Case Manager will play a crucial role in supporting defendants in the Felony Alternative to Incarceration (ATI) Court. This unique court model connects individuals charged with felonies to community resources, promoting rehabilitation over incarceration.
Key Responsibilities
- Deliver comprehensive case management services to court-mandated participants, addressing a range of personal challenges including mental health, substance use, and housing needs.
- Facilitate referrals to community-based services tailored to individual participant needs.
- Monitor compliance with service mandates and coordinate care with service providers.
- Prepare written updates for court stakeholders regarding participant progress.
- Engage in interdisciplinary case conferences with various stakeholders.
- Assist clients in maintaining compliance with court mandates, including re-engagement strategies.
- Attend court sessions as necessary to support clients and collaborate with court personnel.
- Build and maintain strong relationships with key stakeholders, including legal representatives and community partners.
- Support scheduling and coordination of participant assessments and programming.
- Ensure accurate data entry and management within the electronic case management system.
- Provide crisis intervention and support as needed.
- Contribute to the development of new initiatives and best practices within the program.
Qualifications
- A Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience in a social service environment.
- Prior experience in a court or criminal justice setting is highly desirable.
- Familiarity with substance use treatment and trauma-informed care approaches is preferred.
- Bilingual capabilities (English-Spanish) are advantageous.
- Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple priorities effectively.
- Commitment to a holistic, strengths-based approach in working with diverse populations.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Knowledge of community resources available in New York City.
