Job Summary

National Advocates for Pregnant Women (NAPW) is seeking a highly experienced and skilled Deputy Executive Director, Program & Legal Advocacy to join our team. This is a senior-level leadership position that requires a strong background in legal advocacy, program management, and executive management.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide leadership and supervision to NAPW's legal team and oversee the day-to-day program operations of the organization.
  • Collaborate with the Executive Director and Senior Management Team to develop and implement strategic plans for NAPW's legal advocacy and program operations.
  • Represent NAPW in internal and external inquiries, make programmatic/advocacy decisions, and serve as a strategic thought partner and advisor to the Executive Director and Senior Management Team.
  • Supervise attorneys and manage programs, with a focus on reproductive justice, drug policy litigation, and human rights.
  • Develop and implement effective communication strategies to build collaboration across diverse movements and stakeholders.
  • Manage and oversee the development of NAPW's legal research and writing, including the preparation of legal briefs, arguments, and analyses.
  • Ensure compliance with all relevant laws and regulations, and maintain a strong reputation for integrity and professionalism.
Requirements
  • JD degree from an accredited law school and membership in at least one state and federal bar.
  • 8-10 years of senior-level management experience in a non-profit legal advocacy/public interest/social justice environment.
  • Demonstrated success in change implementation, complex litigation and advocacy experience, and experience in supervising attorneys and managing programs.
  • Strong knowledge of reproductive health, rights, and justice, civil rights, and human rights, with a focus on drug policy reform, women's rights, family law, child welfare reform, and human rights.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build collaboration across diverse movements and stakeholders.
  • Strong legal research and writing skills, with the ability to edit and be edited.
  • Full fluency in English, with fluency in Spanish or another language highly desirable.
  • Advanced-level proficiency in using Mac OS platform MS Office Suite, with familiarity or trainability in other software applications, social media platforms, and databases and research tools.
