Job Description


This role is responsible for reviewing investigations on customers that have been alerted for potentially suspicious activity, which may pose a risk for money laundering and terrorist financing.

They will be responsible for ensuring that investigations are maintained at a level commensurate with regulatory expectations.

This role requires strong analytical skills to be used in monitoring, reviewing and investigating cash transaction alerts, suspicious activity alerts, conducting database searches, reviewing EDD forms, CTRs, SARs and other compliance driven forms and processes.

The Financial Dishonesty Investigator ensures that all the cases recommended for review from various sources are worked within the department set standard time frame as noted in the procedures.

In most cases, the expectation is to be completed by the 25th day.

The Financial Dishonesty Investigator is required to complete follow up reviews on SARs which, based on the original filling by the SAR Team, require Follow-Up Filings.

The Financial Dishonesty Investigator utilizes the customer information and transaction history in Verafin, along with the Research Tools in Verafin, to make an informed decision about whether or not a suspicious activity review needs to be sent to the bank, and/or if a SAR should be filed.

For some reviews, the Financial Dishonesty Investigator will need to use Check Image, Central Archive, Banking and internet searches to make a decision as to whether or not the alert should be sent to the bank for further review and/or a SAR is warranted and should be filed.



Responsibilities:

Researches and documents moderately complex cases generated from automated monitoring system and referred by SAR Investigators for potential suspicious activity and makes recommendations for SAR (Suspicious Activity Reporting) to affiliate banks or Non-SAR case determinations.


Responsible for daily monitoring of suspicious transactions through Verafin.

Utilize the Verafin, BSA Manager Application and SAR Manager functions to monitor relationships that may indicate unusual activity.

Review Suspicious Activity Report (SAR) activity worksheets so that SARs can be produced and filed with appropriate regulatory agency.

Communicates with affiliate BSA Liaisons, for clarification when researching and investigating cases, as necessary.

Documents results of investigations on case management system to ensure it meets reporting requirements of both internal and external entities.

Substantiates NON-SAR decisions with documentation.

Have a working knowledge of Verafin along with reports available and disposition alerts as needed.

Prepare documentation upon request and prepare reports for the affiliate bank BSA Liaisons and interdepartmental needs.

Responsible for acting as a liaison with affiliate bank personnel.

Communicate with affiliate bank BSA liaisons regarding missing information or documentation.

Assist in responding to potential issues of concern on a timely basis.

Assist in review 314A reports on a bi-weekly basis.

Maintaining a solid working knowledge (functional and operational) of the rules and regulations, including but not limited to, BSA, USA PATRIOT Act

Support team supervisor in executing certain responsibilities. And keeps direct supervisor abreast of any significant events that affect the day-to-day activity of the BSA department

Maintains thorough knowledge of the Bank's systems used to conduct research of customer transaction activity. Makes recommendations for closing accounts and performs associated follow up to ensure closure of the accounts.

Keeps up-to-date with the latest trends in the industry.

Attend annual training for all staff and complete all compliance and other testing under CBC guidelines.

Requirements

Previous banking experience - Teller or customer service representative experience a plus. Bachelor's degree in business related field preferred, but not required.

Strong analytical, communication, and interpersonal skills.

Self-motivated with an ability to prioritize and manage multiple projects and assignments to meet deadlines.

Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.

Strong computer skills, experience with Microsoft Excel.

Strong writing ability.

Ability to complete required work in a fast paced environment to meet filing deadlines.
