The School of Law has an exciting opening for an Associate Director for Development. This is a full-time, permanent position.

The Associate Director for Development will help develop and execute strategies to raise funds for new endowments and current use funding in support of the School of Law’s academic programs, faculty and students. Specifically, this role will be responsible for developing, implementing and revising fundraising strategies and initiatives, and maintaining close and productive ties to the local legal community, alumni and friends.

What You Will Do:

Strategy Development (25%)

•Provide strategic leadership to the dean, faculty and administrators in designing and implementing strategies, advancement programs and efforts needed to sustain major gift and alumni support.

•Coordinate the participation of administrators, academic leaders, volunteers and development staff in the School of Law’s fundraising activities.

•Provide strategic leadership for key fundraising initiatives and drive the plan for ensuring these goals are met.

Frontline Fundraising (25%)

•Manage a portfolio of major gift prospects capable of giving $50K or more, with an emphasis on prospects who will be solicited within 12-18 months.

•Develop and implement a solicitation strategy for each assigned major gift prospect which will include 250 contacts annually.

•Manage the identification, cultivation, solicitation and stewardship of major gift prospects and alumni for the School of Law.

•Prepare, review and edit written proposals, information materials, endowment agreements, gift illustrations and other materials needed to secure gifts.

Program Development and Management (25%)

•Actively collaborate with School of Law faculty, staff and students to carry out school-wide cultivation, stewardship and/or alumni events, with particular focus on special events and initiatives that foster giving relationships with major gift donors and prospects.

•Participate in the development of (i) policies and procedures relating to the development program, (ii) marketing materials for major gift efforts and (iii) major gift cultivation and stewardship activities and events.

•In consultation with the Assistant Dean for Advancement, create an annual personalized work plan for accomplishing specific priority goals and objectives in coordination with overall unit Advancement goals. Provide regular reports on progress and challenges.

Relationship Management (25%)

•Serve as a liaison to and work cooperatively with staff in central Advancement in preparing cultivation and solicitation strategies for assigned prospects.

Minimum Requirements

  • A bachelor’s degree AND at least five years in development, with experience cultivating and soliciting major gifts.
  • Equivalent education/experience will substitute for all minimum qualifications except when there are legal requirements, such as a license/certification/registration.

What You Bring:

•Ability to organize staff and motivate faculty as well as external advocates and volunteers.

•Proficiency with Microsoft Office suite for correspondence, special reports, spreadsheets, databases, forms, etc.

•Knowledge of alumni relations/development/advancement.

What You Can Expect:

•Shared workspace environment which may result in higher levels of noise and visual distractions.

•Ability to work evening and weekend hours, as necessary, on short or limited notice.

•Must have regular and reliable transportation for frequent local travel.

•Ability to lift 20 pounds regularly and up to 40 pounds occasionally for event setup and tear down.
