The Biomedical Equipment Support Specialist (Biomedical Information Systems) provides clinical and administrative support to staff, patients, and administrators for all matters of concern relating to the facility wide lifecycle management of networks, networked medical equipment and associated systems. The BESS maintains networked medical equipment and associated systems using local, regional and national policies designed to meet criteria from multiple accrediting agencies and governing bodies.
Duties
This Biomedical Equipment Support Specialist (Biomedical Information Systems) vacancy announcement is for an evening shift.
Major duties of the position include (but are not limited to):
- Lifecycle management of network equipment including but not limited to network switches, servers, routers and related infrastructure for any and all networked complex medical devices and systems such as imaging, life support, dialysis, and monitoring;
- Manages, troubleshoots and maintains complete systems of computerized networks, databases and servers including but not limited to biomedical information systems that store or facilitate patient information;
- Implements and plans for new and emerging technologies including but not limited to diagnostic modalities, network management and storage, and virtual data centers;
- Designs, implements and manages network incident response due to infection, loss of service or regional and local policy changes according to VA guidelines;
- As assigned, employee is responsible for lifecycle management of any and all medical devices and systems 629-00294-F such as imaging, life support, dialysis, and monitoring to include physical and network support;
- Maintains functional knowledge of relevant safety codes and standards of regulatory bodies such as (but not limited to): The Joint Commission (TJC), National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) and the Federal Information Processing Standards (FIPS);
- Documents all work performed in the computerized maintenance management system (CMMS);
- Maintains knowledge of the state of the art in medical technology, including scientific advances, network protocols, and vendor changes;
- Leads development of disaster recovery procedures for critical systems to be enacted in the event of device failure;
- The incumbent may be required to shelter in place at the medical center in the event of a storm. The incumbent may be subject to emergency call backs after hours. The incumbent is required to participate in the on-call program.
- Additional duties are performed as assigned by supervisor related to maintenance, remediation, and tracking of medical systems (action items, special projects, etc.) to meet mission critical requirements.
- The incumbent may be required to shelter in place at the medical center in the event of a storm. The incumbent may be subject to emergency call backs after hours. The incumbent is required to participate in the on-call program.
