As a Biomedical Technician I, you will be responsible for installing, inspecting, calibrating, and performing preventive maintenance on general biomedical - electrical, electronic, and pneumatic patient care, diagnostic, monitoring, and therapeutic instrumentation throughout the Medical Center.

You will troubleshoot and repair a variety of instruments, including infusion, syringe, enteral, PCA pumps, SCDs, pacemakers, telemetry, multi-parameter patient monitors, hypothermia units, and lab equipment.

General care areas include Central Services, Labs, Physical/Occupational Therapy, and Dialysis.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Carrying out minor repairs of patient medical equipment, accessories, and cables in an efficient manner.
  • Troubleshooting minor problems in medical equipment and rendering equipment functional by fixing or replacing appropriate components or circuit boards.
  • Verifying proper operation of all device functions prior to returning the device to service.
  • Recording all work done on appropriate forms.
  • Informing and consulting with the Director on unusual problems or specific hazards.

Additional responsibilities include:

  • Installing medical equipment in coordination with the user department and Facilities Management Department.
  • Assisting other CE technicians in the installation of new patient systems.
  • Performing incoming inspection on general patient care equipment with electrical safety checks and/or full acceptance and performance checks.
  • Performing electrical and functional safety checks on all incoming patient care equipment before it is used.
  • Performing functional tests, checks the calibrations on new patient monitors, SCDs, infusion devices, feeding pumps, suction regulators, etc., on a regular basis.

Requirements include:

  • Associate's degree in Biomedical, Electrical, or Electronics Engineering/Technology.
  • 1 year experience as a biomedical technician in a clinical engineering department or an equivalent combination of related education and experience.

Preferred qualifications include:

  • Bachelor's in Biomedical or Electrical or Electronics Engineering.
  • Qualified candidates must be able to effectively communicate with all levels of the organization.
