Major/Essential Functions

Assist the Managing Director (MD) in strategic planning for Research Accounting in service to the goals & objectives of Accounting Services (AS) and the University. Supervise & oversee the daily operations of sponsored projects, post-award management, including staff hiring & training, workload management, performance reviews, and fostering a culture of sustainable excellence. Engage with university central offices and other research institutions to establish best practices for managing sponsored projects. Represent the office in the absence of the MD. Assist the MD in developing & tracking key performance indicators for Research performance evaluation, integrating performance metrics into AS operations. Lead major research projects supporting the university’s mission, including managing interdepartmental relationships, while managing a grant portfolio, serve as back-up within the team as needed, and serving as a sponsor-specific expert. Develop and maintain internal and campus-wide Cognos reports to assess business operations, analyze trends, and monitor compliance and performance; report to department management on operational efficiency and effectiveness. Promote institutional compliance with laws, policies, and regulations that govern sponsored project activities by assisting the MD in policy development, regulation interpretation, and risk assessment Assist the MD in developing and delivering campus-wide training. Oversee project management compliance reviews, co-lead compliance committees as assigned, provide input on award T&Cs when needed and assist with internal and external audits as assigned.

Texas Tech University is seeking a dynamic Assistant Managing Director (AMD) for Post-Award Research to join our team and help drive our research initiatives to new heights. As the AMD for Post-Award Research, you will lead and manage our dedicated Grants Management Team, overseeing post-award financial duties. With $230M in total research expenditures and $58M in federal research expenditures, you will play a crucial role in ensuring compliance with regulations, streamlining project management, and fostering effective collaboration with stakeholders. This role requires extensive experience in financial research administration and a strategic thinker with strong leadership skills to support the key strategic goal of Texas Tech research growth and uphold the highest standards of financial stewardship.
