The Position:

The Strategic Partnerships Specialist will be located in the Strategic Partnerships Branch, Division of Communication and Strategic Partnerships. 

The incumbent will work under the overall supervision and reporting to the Chief of the branch, who leads organization-wide effort to build strategic partnerships with private strategic partners, to position UNFPA as a leader on the agenda of the organization.

UNFPA is seeking candidates that transform, inspire and deliver high impact and sustained results; we need staff who are transparent, exceptional in how they manage the resources entrusted to them and who commit to deliver excellence in programme results.

Job Purpose:

The main purpose of this position is to explore, expand and manage partnerships with private strategic partners with a focus on corporations, to promote internal cooperation and provide guidance to UNFPA offices/units in building partnerships. The staff member will also serve as focal point for Regional Offices and Country Offices. The incumbent will operate according to the UNFPA Strategic Partnerships Framework also coordinating the work on to influence the corporate sector to implement sexual and reproductive rights in the workplace.

You would be responsible for:

A. MOBILIZE RESOURCES

Map and analyze corporations and business ’ trends with a view to identifying partnering and funding opportunities.  Develop outreach pipelines to engage stakeholders effectively. Consolidate the engagement with priority corporate partners and Initiate contact with new partners to secure financial and non-financial resources. Prepare compelling proposals to attract funding and support.

B. PLANNING, MONITORING AND REPORTING

 Provide inputs to private strategic partners and position UNFPA through the development of strategic partnerships.  Support Regional and Country Offices in building strategic partnerships and develop training tools to implement the Strategic Partnerships Framework Participate in the review of the due diligence performed on strategic partners at the HQ, RO and CO level and provide relevant feedback as a basis for the development of partnerships. Negotiate, draft and revise agreements and in close collaboration with UNFPA’s Legal Advisor, as assigned.  As assigned, actively participate in external (inter-agency, multistakeholder etc…) discussions around strategies with the private sector and provide substantive inputs into guidelines, procedures, agreements positioning the work of UNFPA in building partnerships with private stakeholders Follow-up on private sector and other non-traditional partnership proposals and prepare correspondence relating to requests for disbursement, expiring/expired agreements, requests for extension and other reporting requirements to donors under assigned portfolio.  Maintain records of partnerships at country and regional levels for donors under given portfolio. Carry out periodic analysis regarding the resource mobilization needs of these offices. 

C. OTHER RESPONSIBILITIES

Coordinate the work and expansion of the Coalition on Reproductive Justice in Business and of the Metrics on SRHR in the workplace as a means of influence and engagement of the corporate sector. Support the Chief of the Branch in other requested activities which are functional for the optimal operation of the Branch. Any other activities and responsibilities as would be assigned by the DCS Management.


Qualifications and Experience: 

Education:

Advanced university degree in international development studies, social sciences and/or business administration, public administration or related field.

Knowledge and Experience: 

Specialized knowledge of international development policies, international affairs, fundraising and corporate social responsibility are desirable. Background in planning, resource mobilization and influencing the corporate sector, with preference for experience in working on partnerships with the private sector and innovation 5 years progressively relevant experience in the thematic area. Excellent writing and oral communication skills.  Excellent interpersonal and negotiation skills are necessary in this position. Incumbent will be interacting with different external parties and should project an image that is representative of UNFPA.  Ability to work in multicultural settings, and advanced computer and skills are necessary;  Good understanding of word processing, Excel and other computerized applications

Languages: 

Fluency in English is required; Working knowledge of another official UN language is highly desirable.
