Position Overview:

Your Role:

The primary objective of the Capital Equipment Procurement Specialist position is to assess, recommend, bid, and acquire capital assets and related medical products and services. This role collaborates closely with Administration, medical professionals, department leaders, and suppliers to identify equipment that aligns with the needs of Methodist Health System (MHS). The specialist is responsible for procuring equipment at the most advantageous price while ensuring adherence to quality, safety, efficacy, quantity, and specification standards. Coordination with supply sources is essential to guarantee timely delivery of all purchased goods. The role also involves developing a comprehensive plan and requirements list, tracking, and reporting expenditures against the budget for large, intricate projects. Additionally, the specialist will work with customer departments to facilitate service and maintenance agreements and undertake special projects as assigned.

Qualifications:


• A Bachelor's degree with a focus on business and/or finance, or a minimum of five years of experience in procurement.


• Proficiency in automated purchasing systems and bidding for equipment, supplies, and services.


• Exceptional negotiation capabilities.


• Strong computer skills, particularly in spreadsheet and word processing applications.


• Ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment with multiple concurrent activities.


• Proven team leadership and collaboration skills.


• Effective communication skills to engage with vendors and collaborate with all departments within the MHS system.


• Strong interpersonal, written, and verbal presentation skills, alongside excellent analytical abilities and sound decision-making.


• Possession of business acumen and sound judgment.

Key Responsibilities:


• Act as a facilitator and manager in guiding the evaluation processes for capital equipment; serve as an impartial advisor to evaluation teams, ensuring thorough and fair assessments in accordance with MHS capital equipment guidelines. Conduct financial analyses and provide recommendations for routine capital equipment acquisitions.


• Collaborate with Administration, medical professionals, and department leaders to formulate a comprehensive plan and requirements list, then procure, monitor, and report expenditures against the budget for large, complex special projects. Keep management and relevant departments informed about the status of procurement projects that may experience delays impacting departmental operations.


• Participate effectively in system-wide standardization and cost containment committees. Develop Request for Proposal (RFP) documents to solicit bids from qualified suppliers for the purpose of awarding contracts for supplies or capital equipment purchases. Conduct financial analyses and gather product performance references. Compare incumbent versus proposed products/equipment and suggest viable alternatives for evaluation as appropriate.


• Upon request, review overall costs of various product categories, equipment, or services to identify opportunities for expense reduction through consolidated purchases and potential operational changes. Provide guidance to new Buyers on daily operations as necessary.


• Collaborate with internal customer departments and external suppliers to enforce MHS Materials Management policies. Ensure prompt and courteous interactions with sales representatives, maintaining a positive hospital image and fostering strong supplier relationships through ethical standards of conduct.
