About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled Transportation Engineer to lead our roadway design team at Civil & Environmental Consultants, Inc. As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for leading and preparing roadway and highway plans, specifications, and cost estimates for public works and large infrastructure projects throughout the Southwest.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead the roadway design efforts for projects, including the preparation of plans and specifications for construction packages;
  • Collaborate closely with project managers, engineers, and contractors to develop efficient and constructible solutions that align with project goals and timelines;
  • Review and approve shop drawings and construction documents to ensure accurate translation of design intent during the construction phase;
  • Provide technical support and guidance to the construction team during the execution of roadway work, responding to inquiries and resolving on-site design-related challenges;
  • Collaborate with project management to monitor project schedules, budgets, and deliverables;
  • Assist with the identification and recruitment of key personnel and mentoring/training the Civil staff to assure professional growth and development;
  • Assist with business development and preparation of proposals for public works pursuits;
  • Assure project deliverables meet quality requirements.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering or related field;
  • Minimum 5+ years' experience in roadway design, preferably large public works or similar infrastructure projects;
  • Registered Professional Engineer (PE) in Civil engineering;
  • Demonstrated understanding and knowledge of industry codes and standards;
  • Demonstrated understanding and knowledge of AutoCAD Civil 3D (Microstation is a plus);
  • Ability to work with a multi-disciplined staff of project managers, engineers, and field inspectors;
  • Strong knowledge of construction methods, materials, and industry best practices and familiarity with relevant codes and regulations governing construction projects;
  • Effective communication skills to convey complex technical concepts to both technical and non-technical stakeholders;
  • Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to develop innovative and practical design solutions;
  • Ability to work safely, collaboratively, and proactively in a team environment;
  • Adaptability and flexibility to accommodate changes in project scope and evolving design requirements;
  • Ability to perform field/site visits;
  • Ability to develop and mentor staff;
  • Ability to prepare proposals and manage project execution;
  • Ability to interface with clients, network, and develop business.
