Position Overview:

Key Responsibilities:
  • Serve as the Engineer of Record (EOR) and lead for roadway disciplines on civil construction initiatives.
  • Collaborate effectively with other discipline leads to ensure seamless project integration.
  • Oversee a design team to create cost-efficient designs for intricate highways, railroads, and runways, while preparing comprehensive plans and reports for various design stages: Preliminary design, 60% design, 100% design, and RFCs. Emphasize design optimizations and alternative solutions as necessary.
  • Conduct thorough due diligence and review roadway designs from team engineers and subconsultants, ensuring quality control of all outputs.
  • Engage in leadership activities, mentoring junior staff and guiding them to enhance their technical expertise.
  • Track and report on progress against design schedules, reviewing and approving tasks to meet deadlines.
  • Operate within a multidisciplinary environment, maintaining active communication with team members involved in design and construction to identify needs and assess alternative solutions.
  • Provide ongoing support for detailed design projects, proposing innovative solutions and addressing roadway challenges.
  • Facilitate project-specific meetings with clients, engineering consultants, and stakeholders to discuss and resolve design and construction issues.
  • Responsible for estimating Bills of Quantities.
  • Conduct studies on applicable specifications to ensure compliance with project plans.
  • Support workload deadlines to ensure timely submissions.
  • Assist with field observation tasks as required.
  • Perform additional duties as necessary related to the outlined scope of work.
Qualifications:
  • Master's or Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering or Construction Engineering from an accredited U.S. institution, ideally from a top-tier civil engineering program.
  • Professional Engineer (P.E.) registration in at least one state, with the capability to obtain registration in Texas within 90 days of employment.
  • A minimum of 8 years of professional experience in the detailed design of freeways, interstate highways, and complex interchanges (including plan production and specifications).
  • Preferred experience as EOR in roadway projects within Texas.
  • Proven experience leading roadway design teams and managing external consultants.
  • Familiarity with AASHTO policies on geometric design of highways and streets, AASHTO Roadside Design Guide, and other relevant manuals concerning roadway design. Knowledge of TxDOT Roadway Design Manual and local practices is advantageous.
  • Proficient in MicroStation, InRoads, PowerGEOPAK, and/or OpenRoads, along with other common software in transportation engineering. Experience with ProjectWise is desirable.
  • Exemplary leadership qualities and a strong work ethic.
  • Ability to interpret construction documents, drawings, and specifications accurately.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Strong attention to detail, capable of thriving in a fast-paced environment; eager to learn and apply engineering skills to develop innovative problem-solving designs.
