Director of Risk Management – Denver, Colorado

About Western Union

This position entails directing and supervising our enterprise risk management initiatives, particularly in relation to regulatory compliance and advisory services, as well as identifying emerging risks. You will support the global program and the specific license requirements pertinent to our compliance risk assessments. Acting as a senior liaison among compliance, business units, and risk management, you will evaluate risks and promote transparency in risk-related discussions. This role will also involve managing the team’s delivery of risk assessments, utilizing data elements, tools, and thorough risk analysis to inform licensed entity requirements and business strategies. You will provide strategic direction for risk modeling associated with our enterprise risk management initiatives.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the team in developing risk assessments for compliance programs and other significant regulatory compliance requirements (e.g., Climate, Geopolitical Assessments).
  • Oversee and facilitate the creation of risk models to guide business decisions and risk management.
  • Present risk assessment data, findings, and outputs to regulatory bodies, business partners, and key stakeholders, ensuring transparency and clarity regarding the risk analysis conducted and the overall AML compliance framework.
  • Assist senior management in maintaining a comprehensive perspective on all risks associated with TWUC business models by conducting risk assessments, supporting the compilation of risks (e.g., Global Risk Register), and advocating for risk ownership in risk analysis.
  • Conduct ongoing oversight and reporting of emerging risks across the organization, producing ad hoc enterprise and regulatory risk reports or assessments as needed.
  • Lead and facilitate the development of significant enterprise risk analysis and reporting for the Executive Risk Committee and other senior stakeholders (e.g., risk assessments, risk registers, enterprise risk reporting, KRIs reporting, etc.).
  • Manage the development, evolution, management, and reporting of TWUC Key Risk Indicators to the respective Boards and senior management.
  • Support the development and maintenance of risk management frameworks and strategic documentation for the company, ensuring alignment with business objectives.
  • Assist in the formulation, implementation, and maintenance of risk and control policies and protocols to identify, manage, and mitigate risks within business processes.
  • Encourage the adoption and application of risk policies and procedures throughout the organization in a manner that effectively supports each relevant function.
  • People Management: Foster a unified vision and promote a collaborative, high-performing team culture, managing, motivating, and guiding team members in the Risk Team to attract and retain talented staff.

Qualifications

  • 7+ years of experience in risk management.
  • Experience in a large organization with multi-state requirements across various regulated industries.
  • Demonstrated management capabilities and team leadership.
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple deadlines effectively.
  • Exceptional written communication skills.
  • Proficient in executive presentation.
  • Project management experience is preferred.
  • Willingness to travel to industry-related seminars and relevant licensing entities.
  • Analytical mindset with attention to detail.

Compensation
The annual base salary range is $151,745 – $252,908. This role is also eligible for short-term and long-term incentives based on individual and company performance. Actual salaries will vary based on candidates' qualifications, skills, and competencies.
