Director of Risk Management – Denver, Colorado

About Western Union

This role entails providing strategic direction and oversight for our enterprise risk management initiatives, particularly concerning regulatory compliance and advisory functions, as well as identifying emerging risks. You will support the global program and specific licensing requirements tied to our compliance risk assessments. Acting as a senior liaison among compliance, business units, and risk management, you will evaluate risks and ensure clarity in risk-related discussions. The position involves managing the team's delivery of risk assessments, utilizing data, tools, and thorough risk analysis to inform business decisions and meet licensed entity obligations. You will also guide risk modeling efforts related to our enterprise risk management framework.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the team in developing risk assessments for compliance programs and other significant regulatory requirements (e.g., Climate, Geopolitical Assessments).
  • Oversee and facilitate the creation of risk models to inform business strategies and support risk-related decisions.
  • Present risk assessment findings and data to regulators, business partners, and key stakeholders, ensuring transparency in the risk analysis process and the overall compliance program.
  • Assist senior management in maintaining a comprehensive understanding of all risks inherent in the business models by conducting risk assessments and promoting risk ownership.
  • Regularly monitor and report on emerging risks across the organization, producing necessary enterprise and regulatory risk reports or assessments.
  • Guide the development of insightful enterprise risk analysis and reporting for the Executive Risk Committee and other senior stakeholders (e.g., risk assessments, risk registers, enterprise risk reporting, KRIs reporting).
  • Manage the development, evolution, and reporting of TWUC Key Risk Indicators to the respective Boards and senior management.
  • Support the creation and maintenance of risk management frameworks and strategic documentation that align with business objectives.
  • Facilitate the development, implementation, and upkeep of risk and control policies to identify, manage, and mitigate risks in business processes.
  • Encourage the adoption of risk policies and procedures throughout the organization to support relevant functions effectively.
  • People Management: Cultivate a shared vision and foster a collaborative, high-performance team culture, motivating and guiding team members in the Risk Team to attract and retain skilled professionals.

Qualifications

  • 7+ years of experience in risk management.
  • Experience in a large organization with multi-state requirements across various regulated industries.
  • Demonstrated management capabilities and team leadership.
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple deadlines effectively.
  • Exceptional written communication skills.
  • Proficient in executive presentation skills.
  • Experience in project management.
  • Willingness to travel for industry-related seminars and necessary licensing entities.
  • Analytical mindset with attention to detail.

Compensation
The annual base salary range is $151,745 – $252,908. This role is also eligible for short-term and long-term incentives that align with individual and company performance. Actual salaries will vary based on candidates' qualifications, skills, and competencies.
