Key Responsibilities

The primary duties involve operating Construction Material Testing (CMT) equipment both in the laboratory and on-site to assess the engineering characteristics of various materials, including soil, aggregate, concrete, and asphalt.

Specific testing procedures will adhere to the standards set forth by the American Society of Testing and Materials (ASTM), American Association of State Highway and Transportation Officials (AASHTO), and the American Concrete Institute (ACI). Typical testing tasks include, but are not limited to:

  • Soil Testing: moisture content, classification (Atterberg limits), specific gravity, grain size analysis (sieve and hydrometer test), and Proctor tests (standard and modified moisture density relationship).
  • Aggregate Testing: gradations and relative density.
  • Concrete Testing: air content, slump, and strength.
  • Asphalt Testing: asphalt content of mixtures by ignition method, stability, and flow of asphalt mixtures via the Marshall method.
