Job Overview:
The State of Nebraska is seeking a dedicated, detail-oriented, and collaborative individual to become a part of the Engineering, Operations, and Construction team, focusing on team leadership. This full-time, permanent role involves overseeing, planning, directing, and coordinating various construction initiatives within the agency.
Key Responsibilities:
• Lead a team of skilled carpentry and heavy equipment professionals throughout the state.
• Oversee, assess, and evaluate construction projects that require heavy machinery, including but not limited to roadway repairs, campground enhancements, and water management systems.
• Manage carpentry teams responsible for agency-wide projects.
• Analyze construction plans and specifications to determine project scope, conduct field measurements, and prepare cost estimates.
• Collaborate with field teams to identify and address construction, maintenance, and repair needs on-site. Engage with engineers, consultants, and agency staff to resolve issues related to work procedures and construction challenges.
• Ensure workflow is maintained and projects are scheduled to meet completion deadlines while securing necessary materials for ongoing work.
• Maintain inventory oversight of equipment, project materials, and supplies to guarantee all projects are sufficiently supported.
• Solicit and evaluate bids, recommending contract awards for minor construction materials and services.
• Keep accurate records to document work performed and ensure proper distribution of documentation as needed.
• Travel may be required as part of the role.

Qualifications:
Minimum Requirements: An Associate's degree or equivalent vocational training in construction, HVAC, welding, or related maintenance/construction fields, along with one year of experience in skilled building maintenance or a mechanical trade, and experience in supervising skilled maintenance personnel, budgeting, and managing significant construction or renovation projects. Experience may substitute for education on a year-for-year basis.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
- Understanding of operational policies, budget development, personnel management, strategic planning, and management practices; knowledge of preventative maintenance systems and various building, mechanical, and utility trades.
- Ability to formulate, implement, and enforce policies, establish long-term programs, and organize departments for maximum efficiency; plan, organize, and effectively supervise skilled staff across various trades, delegate tasks, and coordinate multi-trade functions.
- Capability to supervise others, communicate effectively, coordinate projects, interpret contracts and specifications, and apply critical thinking and problem-solving skills. Maintain a positive attitude focused on customer support and foster good interpersonal relationships while delivering high-quality service. Adaptability to change and varying schedules is essential.
