Job Overview

The Forensic Analyst Intern will support the Department of Homeland Security's Office of Biometric Identity Management. This role involves working with one of the largest fingerprint databases globally, assisting in providing critical biometric services to various law enforcement and governmental agencies.

Internship Responsibilities

The intern will be expected to commit approximately 16 hours per week to various administrative tasks, including but not limited to:

  • Assisting in the preparation of daily, weekly, and monthly statistical reports.
  • Reviewing and creating electronic file jackets while logging all incoming casework.
  • Conducting inventory assessments and generating reports.
  • Pulling FBI prints using ULW and reviewing Lead Track Reports.
  • Creating tenprint cards from the customer’s repository.

In addition to administrative duties, the intern will receive training for an additional 10 hours per week on proper fingerprint comparison techniques following the ACE-V methodology. This training will also cover how to perform fingerprint transaction reviews and corrections. Upon successful completion of the training program, the intern will be expected to work independently and accurately provide the aforementioned services.

Internship Duration

This internship will last for 6 months, requiring the intern to work two 8-hour days each week, starting at 6 AM and concluding at 2:30 PM. Flexibility is essential, as the intern must be able to accommodate two days of work, totaling 8.5 hours per day (including an unpaid lunch break).

Administrative Duties Include:

  • Preparation of daily, weekly, and monthly reports.
  • Logging of latent print and tenprint cases.
  • Monitoring of latent print and tenprint email accounts.
  • Writing and disseminating results reports.
  • Creation of tenprint cards.
  • Management of inventory property.
  • Reviewing and disseminating Lead Track reports.
  • Retrieving ULW prints.
  • Additional tasks as required.

Qualifications

The ideal candidate must be currently enrolled as a Senior or be a recent graduate from a Forensic Science or Criminal Justice program, maintaining a minimum GPA of 3.0. Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications (Excel, Word, Outlook, etc.) and web-based applications (Internet Explorer, Chrome, Google) is required.

Preferred Skills

Experience with Access Database, familiarity with professional forensic organizations, and knowledge of software such as Microsoft Access, Adobe Acrobat, and Adobe Photoshop are advantageous.

Compensation

The full-time salary range for this position is $49,177. Please note that individual salaries are determined by various factors, including market conditions and candidate qualifications.
