Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Forensic Scientist to join our team at Jefferson County, Colorado. The successful candidate will be responsible for conducting forensic analyses, providing expert testimony, and collaborating with law enforcement agencies.

Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct forensic analyses of biological evidence, including DNA analysis, to aid in the investigation and prosecution of crimes.
  • Participate in the development and implementation of policies and procedures related to forensic analysis and evidence handling.
  • Provide expert testimony in court and assist in the preparation of reports and other documentation related to forensic analyses.
  • Collaborate with law enforcement agencies to provide technical assistance and support in the investigation and prosecution of crimes.
  • Stay current with scientific advancements in the field of forensic biology and participate in ongoing training and professional development.
  • Participate in the maintenance of laboratory accreditation standards and ensure compliance with all relevant regulations and standards.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in a relevant field, such as forensic science, biology, or chemistry.
  • Minimum three years of experience in a forensic science laboratory or related field.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to effectively communicate complex scientific information to non-technical audiences.
  • Ability to work outside of normal business hours, as needed.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Advanced degree in a relevant field, such as a Master's or Ph.D. in forensic science or a related field.
  • Certification in a relevant field, such as forensic DNA analysis or crime scene investigation.
  • Experience working in a laboratory setting, with a strong understanding of laboratory procedures and protocols.

Working Conditions

The successful candidate will be required to work in a laboratory setting, with frequent exposure to biological and chemical hazards. The ability to work in a fast-paced environment and meet deadlines is essential.
