The Office of Child Support Services (OCSS) serves as the primary access point for custodial parents seeking child support assistance, particularly those receiving Cash Assistance. Our mission is to ensure that custodial parents are effectively supported in their pursuit of financial support for their children.

When the location of the noncustodial parent is identified, cases are escalated to family court to initiate legal proceedings for child support and/or to establish paternity.

Our agency is dedicated to providing essential guidance to custodial parents and their families in the collection of owed support payments, utilizing all available resources to achieve this goal.

Under the guidance of the Supervisor I (Social Services), the Caseworker operates with a degree of autonomy to conduct client interviews and investigations, particularly those referred by the Family Independence Administration (FIA), aimed at locating absent parents who are legally responsible for child support.

This process is crucial for maintaining the applicant's eligibility for assistance.

Upon locating the absent parent, the gathered information is forwarded to DSS Court Services to facilitate the preparation of court summons for the absent parent, ensuring paternity confirmation and the establishment of child support obligations.

The OCSS is currently seeking to hire six (6) individuals for the role of Case Management Worker who will:

  • Evaluate the necessity of interviews and conduct them as required to complete child support applications, update case records, and locate noncustodial parents.
Schedule follow-up interviews and activities as necessary, with client interactions occurring either in-person or via telephone.

  • Perform thorough system searches across various applications based on leads gathered during client interviews; actively pursue and develop leads to successfully locate noncustodial parents.
  • Collaborate with other OCSS departments and external entities to gather necessary information and documentation.
  • Ensure all required documentation is prepared for court referral to establish parentage and/or secure a support order.
  • Comprehend and adhere to established operational procedures and guidelines to prevent delays in court referrals and maintain the accuracy of completed work.
Prepare and finalize standard forms and supporting documentation to transition cases from the Borough Office to Court.

  • Maintain worker logs to accurately reflect interviews conducted throughout the day.
  • Engage in special projects and perform other permissible Caseworker functions within the program area.

Qualifications

  • A bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university recognized by the U.S. Secretary of Education and the Council for Higher Education Accreditation (CHEA).

Additional Information:

As mandated by Section 424-a of the New York State Social Services Law, an authorized agency must verify whether a candidate for employment with child-care responsibilities has been the subject of an indicated child abuse and maltreatment report on file with the State Central Register.

Screening through the State Central Register will be conducted prior to considering candidates for the Caseworker position.

Candidates with a history of indicated child abuse and maltreatment reports will not be assigned to roles involving child-care responsibilities.

Employees with such a report may face reassignment or termination from their Caseworker positions.
