Compensation: $25.50 per hour
Department Insights
This role requires flexibility for both morning and evening shifts, primarily on weekends, with a rotation of mornings and nights during the week. The position involves working independently as the primary cook, supported by one aide assistant. Holiday shifts will also be rotated, with additional compensation for evening, night, and weekend work.
Physical Requirements:
Ability to lift heavy boxes when restocking supplies.
Key Responsibilities
Perform a variety of tasks in food production that supports patient and resident care. Execute meal services according to prescribed dietary needs.
Prepare, cook, season, and portion meals for patients, staff, and visitors, ensuring adherence to menu guidelines and dietary restrictions.
Maintain high standards of food quality in terms of appearance, taste, temperature, and sanitation. Carry out cleaning duties to ensure hygiene in cooking and serving areas. Manage labeling and storage of food, equipment, and machinery. Provide the highest quality and safest food possible to all stakeholders. Collaborate effectively with various internal customers, demonstrating strong communication and teamwork skills.Exhibit the ability to thrive in a dynamic culinary environment.
Follow standardized recipes and Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Point (HACCP) guidelines for food preparation, storage, and usage.
Document HACCP procedures, temperatures, and outcomes to ensure food safety while adhering to daily and weekly menu production sheets.
Operate kitchen equipment, including mixers, slicers, kettles, ovens, grills, and dishwashers.
Demonstrate the ability to work independently when required. Understand food safety and sanitation processes. Exhibit basic math skills for accurate measurements and demonstrate proficiency in reading and following recipes.Maintain the ability to be on feet for extended periods and navigate throughout the facility. A high school diploma or equivalent is preferred.
Ability to read, write, and follow both oral and written instructions.
At least one year of previous cooking experience is required, with a preference for experience in therapeutic diets.
Strong line cooking skills are essential to ensure timely preparation of all foods in coordination with patient tray assembly.Depending on the location, Serv Safe certification may be required within a designated timeframe. Must complete annual continuing education requirements, including departmental meetings, safety training, therapeutic diet education, and mandatory in-services.
