About the Role

The UC San Diego Moores Comprehensive Cancer Center is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Deputy Director for Administration to join our team. As a key member of our senior leadership team, you will play a critical role in overseeing the administrative operations of the Cancer Center, ensuring the seamless execution of our strategic plan and the delivery of exceptional cancer research, patient care, education, and community outreach programs.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide strategic leadership and direction to the Cancer Center's administrative operations, including financial management, human resources, and facilities management.
  • Develop and implement policies and procedures to ensure compliance with regulatory requirements and optimize operational efficiency.
  • Collaborate with the Cancer Center Director and senior leadership team to advance the strategic plan and achieve our mission to reduce cancer's burden.
  • Oversee the management of budgets, grants, and contracts, ensuring effective financial stewardship and compliance with university and regulatory requirements.
  • Lead and manage a team of administrative professionals, providing guidance, mentorship, and development opportunities to ensure their success and growth.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with key stakeholders, including faculty, staff, patients, and community partners, to foster a culture of collaboration and excellence.
  • Stay up-to-date with industry trends, best practices, and regulatory requirements, applying this knowledge to drive innovation and improvement in our administrative operations.
Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in a related field, plus 8 years of relevant experience, or 12 years of combined experience and education.
  • Advanced knowledge of financial analysis, accounting principles, forecasting, budgeting, audit, and internal control systems.
  • Excellent leadership, interpersonal, and communication skills, with the ability to inspire and motivate a diverse team.
  • Proven experience in research administration, with a strong understanding of grants management, business finance, strategy, and change management.
  • Master's degree in business, health administration, or a clinical degree is preferred.
  • Five or more years of progressive leadership experience in research administration, preferably in a NCI-designated Comprehensive Cancer Center.
