Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Library Technical Specialist to join our team at Glendale Community College. The successful candidate will be responsible for performing specialized technical library duties, including assisting employees with the acquisition, maintenance, arrangement, and cataloging of library resources, materials, and equipment.

Key Responsibilities
  • Assist with the acquisition of new library materials, including administering procurement processes, receiving purchase requests, and recommending vendors and budget accounts.
  • Obtain continuation orders from vendors, assign barcodes, update holding records, and check materials into the collection using the library management system.
  • Catalog, process, maintain, and repair materials, including searching and retrieving preliminary machine-readable cataloging (MARC) format records from vendors' software, online computer library center (OCLC), or another bibliographic source.
  • Track the budget for procurement of books and e-books, prepare requisitions for payment of vendor invoices, and maintain records of materials purchased.
  • Regularly update records of library holdings, including title changes and frequencies of periodicals, journals, and monographs.
  • Search, monitor, and create reports on all interlibrary loan (ILL) transactions and maintain records of ILL activity for the California State Library.
  • Claim missing, lost, and not-received periodicals, journals, and newspapers, and design electronic reports and publications describing library collections.
  • Compile daily, monthly, and annual data of all categories of circulating items as well as in-house circulation and daily headcount.
  • Maintain library instruction records, including student attendance and faculty participation, and assist in preparing and maintaining the inventory of instructional materials.
  • Prepare correspondence and reports to vendors, libraries, and employees regarding materials acquisitions and availability.
Requirements
  • Associate's degree or equivalent from an accredited college or university.
  • Three (3) years of library experience, including circulation.
  • Knowledge of library of Congress subject headings, vendors and sources for procuring books and related items for a library, and the Dewey Decimal Classification System (DDC) and Anglo-American Cataloging Rules (AACR2).
  • Ability to classify and catalog library materials according to standard library systems and practices, use a database management system to input, retrieve, edit, and search data, and operate and maintain a variety of office equipment including computers and printers/copiers.
Working Conditions

The work is primarily performed in a library environment. The successful candidate will be required to work in a fast-paced environment and meet deadlines.
