Position Summary:
The Retail Operations Supervisor assists the Store Manager in overseeing store personnel, managing inventory and sales, maintaining store conditions, fostering customer relationships, and ensuring accurate financial practices. This role supports the daily operations of the thrift store effectively.

Core Duties Include:
- Aiding in the training and supervision of store staff as needed.
- Involvement in the recruitment and selection of store personnel.
- Assisting in staff scheduling, ensuring accuracy, and submitting payroll for processing.
- Ensuring compliance with all organizational policies regarding employee relations.
- Forwarding employment-related documentation to the HR Department as required.
- Providing training and support to individuals participating in work therapy programs.
- Supporting strategies aimed at achieving production and sales targets.
- Overseeing the processes of product acquisition, production, and sales.
- Ensuring product rotation and timely processing of inventory.
- Coordinating with the central warehouse for daily processing needs.
- Assisting in maintaining store safety, security, cleanliness, and overall appearance.

- Monitoring display arrangements and layout plans.
- Identifying opportunities for enhancing store appeal to customers.
- Implementing measures to prevent loss through theft or spoilage.
- Reporting maintenance needs to the Store Manager or appropriate personnel.
- Developing and executing customer engagement and retention strategies.
- Creating a welcoming shopping environment and fostering positive customer interactions.
- Assisting in financial recordkeeping and reporting for the store.
- Applying approved cash handling procedures for register operations.
- Managing bank deposits and reporting store performance metrics.
- Communicating regularly with the Store Manager regarding store operations and any incidents or concerns.
- Collaborating with the Store Manager to manage budgetary compliance.
- Ensuring adherence to cash handling protocols.
- Availability for a flexible work schedule, including early and late shifts, as well as weekends.
- Working alongside the Store Manager to enhance the community's perception of The Salvation Army.
- Promoting understanding of policies and addressing customer concerns effectively.
- Safeguarding resources under supervision.
- Implementing loss prevention measures.
- Managing waste related to property and supplies.
- Performing additional duties as assigned.
- Upholding the mission of The Salvation Army.

Additional Information

Minimum Qualifications:
The following qualifications are representative of the minimum requirements for this position.

Education and Experience:
High School Diploma or equivalent. A minimum of 2 years of retail experience is preferred, with thrift store experience being advantageous. An Associate's Degree is a plus.

Certifications:
Valid Driver's License required. Must be able to drive in accordance with organizational policies.

Skills and Abilities:

  • Proficient in spoken and written English for effective communication with customers and colleagues.

  • Basic computer skills, including familiarity with Point of Sale systems and payroll software.

  • Ability to handle cash transactions accurately.
  • Strong communication skills and good manual dexterity.

Supervisory Responsibilities:
Assists in training and supervising store staff. Provides necessary information for personnel reviews and corrective actions. Reviews and approves time and attendance records for store personnel.

The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 50 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 100 pounds. Specific vision abilities required include close vision, distance vision, and the ability to adjust focus.
The work environment is a retail setting with a moderate noise level, which may be dusty and subject to temperature variations. Extended periods of standing may be required.

Occasional travel to various locations for work or training may be necessary.
