Position Overview

The Mechanical Systems Operator is responsible for the management and upkeep of stationary engines and mechanical apparatus. This role is crucial in our endeavor to develop a more intelligent airport and to uphold ACAA's status as a leader in global aviation.

Key Responsibilities

  • Engage in the development or participation of job safety analysis procedures.
  • Oversee the comprehensive maintenance of all stationary equipment, including diagnostics, parts management, and the disassembly, repair, and rebuilding of equipment, ensuring compliance with E.P.A. standards for refrigerant disposal.
  • Regularly monitor meters, gauges, and automatic recording devices to confirm operational conditions.
  • Document critical data such as temperature, pressure levels, and operational hours of equipment.
  • Adjust manual controls or override automatic systems to maintain equipment within prescribed operating ranges, switch to backup systems, or take equipment offline as necessary.
  • Conduct visual inspections of equipment to identify malfunctions or maintenance needs, including changing filters and cleaning to uphold indoor air quality standards.
  • Perform routine maintenance tasks such as tightening fittings, repacking bearings, and replacing various components.
  • Maintain lubrication of equipment as required.
  • Document all operational and maintenance activities in the operators' logbook.
  • Carry out additional related tasks as assigned.

Qualifications

To be considered for the Mechanical Systems Operator position, candidates should possess:

  • A high school diploma or GED.
  • A minimum of five years of experience in a similar role.
  • A current license from the National Institute for the Uniform Licensing of Power Engineers (NIULPE) and a Universal CFC license.
  • Completion of a recognized apprenticeship or equivalent training from an accredited institution.
  • A valid driver's license.
  • Personal protective footwear and hand tools.
  • Adherence to ACAA's dress code and personal protective equipment policies.
  • A willingness to broaden knowledge of various equipment aspects to enhance operational efficiency.

Desired Skills and Abilities

Successful candidates will typically demonstrate:

  • Extensive knowledge of the practices, methods, tools, and materials relevant to the mechanical systems trade.
  • Understanding of occupational hazards and safety protocols.
  • Ability to work effectively using standard practices and tools of the trade.
  • Competence in operating and servicing direct expansion A/C units, including heat pumps.
  • Strong collaborative skills.

Physical Requirements

This position requires the ability to perform essential functions, which may include:

  • Regular walking, reaching, and communication.
  • Frequent standing and occasional sitting, stooping, kneeling, or crawling.
  • Lifting and moving items up to 25 pounds regularly, and up to 100 pounds occasionally with assistance.
  • Specific vision capabilities, including depth perception and peripheral vision.
