Food Safety and Sanitation Supervisor

Position Overview: This role is pivotal in overseeing and coordinating the sanitation and food safety initiatives within a food processing facility. The individual will lead sanitation personnel and ensure adherence to Good Manufacturing Practices (GMPs), Standard Sanitation Operating Procedures (SSOPs), and Hazard Analysis Critical Control Points (HACCP) policies.

  • Work Planning: Strategically plan and allocate departmental tasks utilizing personnel, equipment, and resources to maintain a hygienic and sanitized environment.
  • Safety Compliance: Actively support General Plant Safety, Food Safety, Food Defense Initiatives, and GMPs, recognizing their critical importance.
  • Staff Management: Assess manpower needs and select qualified candidates for essential roles.
  • Employee Training: Assign tasks to staff and provide guidance on procedures that ensure quality, safety, and operational efficiency.
  • Policy Adherence: Ensure compliance with all established employee policies and implement disciplinary measures when necessary.
  • Documentation: Prepare and maintain the Master Sanitation Schedule, logs, and other relevant documentation, distributing information as required.
  • Process Improvement: Recommend enhancements to organizational procedures, policies, and standards to optimize operations.
  • Leadership Development: Train crew leaders to step into supervisory roles in the event of absence or promotion.
  • Innovative Environment: Foster a workplace culture that encourages creativity and continuous improvement.
  • Collaboration: Work closely with Plant Management and Quality Assurance to ensure compliance with cleaning standards and USDA regulations.
  • Inventory Management: Procure sanitation supplies and maintain adequate inventory levels.
  • Regulatory Compliance: Collaborate with USDA to ensure all regulations are strictly followed.
  • Safety Practices: Understand and implement appropriate safety protocols through education, training, and adherence to safety policies and regulations.
  • Additional Responsibilities: Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • 5-10 years of relevant experience is preferred.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Familiarity with GMPs, HACCP, lean manufacturing, and other food safety principles.
  • Strong communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to engage employees at all levels.
  • Proven ability to motivate and mentor staff, identifying development needs and providing support.
  • Excellent organizational skills to manage multiple priorities in a dynamic environment.
  • Bilingual capabilities are a plus.
  • A degree in Business Management, Production Operations Management, Agricultural Science, Food Science, or a related field is preferred.
  • Work conditions may include exposure to noise, extreme temperatures, and movement of powered equipment.
  • Physical requirements may include lifting up to 50 pounds and standing/walking for extended periods.
