NYC Media serves as the official broadcast network and media production group for the City.

NYC Life, the flagship channel, provides programming that informs, educates, and entertains residents about the City's diverse communities, services, and activities.

Available over-the-air and through multiple cable providers, NYC Media reaches approximately 18 million viewers within a 50-mile radius, 24/7.

NYC Gov, the municipal channel, ensures government transparency by broadcasting live sessions from City Hall, City Council meetings, and City Planning Commissions.

WNYE 91.5 FM Radio offers NPR news, world music, and local community programming, reaching over 12 million listeners within a 40-mile radius.

The Broadcast & IT Support Engineer will operate under varying levels of supervision, with the autonomy to make independent decisions, tasked with maintaining a 24/7/365 broadcast facility, which includes master control, transmission sites, and interconnected production and post-production facilities.



Key Responsibilities:

  • Installation, repair, and maintenance of advanced broadcast technology;
  • Collaboration with High Definition video playback servers, routers, automation systems, and KVM systems;
  • Maintenance of broadband connections between master control and transmitters;
  • Assistance with IT-related tasks, including peer-to-peer file sharing protocols and remote desktop applications;
  • Collaboration with engineers and operators at the Master Control Facility, TV technical team members, and other departments to troubleshoot and resolve broadcast and multimedia system issues;

  • Database maintenance and support;
  • Professional representation of the agency in diverse, dynamic environments while effectively interacting with broadcast personnel, including master control operators, traffic, and programming staff;
  • Management of special projects and initiatives as assigned.

Work Schedule:
Due to the operational requirements of this position, candidates may be required to work various shifts, including weekends and evenings.

Passing civil service examinations is necessary for continued employment with the City of New York. Candidates should check the Department of Citywide Administrative Services (DCAS) website for exam filing information.

Applicants must be either permanent employees in the civil service title listed or file for the examination during an open filing period.

  • Interested candidates with other civil service titles who meet the preferred qualifications should submit a resume for consideration.

Qualifications:

  • A bachelor's degree from an accredited institution, including or supplemented by 24 semester credits in telecommunications, electronics, physics, or related fields, along with one year of relevant experience; or
  • An associate degree with 12 semester credits in the aforementioned fields and two years of relevant experience; or
  • A high school diploma or equivalent with three years of relevant experience; or
  • A satisfactory combination of education and experience equivalent to the above. A college education may substitute for experience at a rate of six months of experience for every 30 semester credits of undergraduate education, with specific requirements in telecommunications and electronics.
