Position Overview
As a Production Assistant for Nightly News, you will collaborate closely with the Executive Producer and Senior Producers to facilitate the creation of a live, 30-minute nightly broadcast.
Key Responsibilities:
- Support producers in logging media, capturing elements, sourcing archival footage, and securing new imagery for daily news and feature segments.
- Assist in production during shoots by coordinating, organizing, and providing editorial direction.
- Acquire proficiency in Avid and develop desk editing skills to produce voiceovers and teasers for broadcast.
- Perform desk edits of digital cuts for Nightly stories.
- Contribute to the show production team in the control room and studio during live broadcasts.
- Research, pitch, and develop story ideas for Nightly News segments.
- Anticipate and address additional needs of the Executive Producer and Nightly News team.
- Coordinate travel arrangements for multiple personnel on short notice for breaking news situations.
- Exhibit willingness and availability to work weekends and additional hours, as needed, for breaking news updates.
Qualifications:
- A minimum of 1 year of experience in news production at the network level, ideally with an evening news program.
- A Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience.
- Proficient in shooting and expected to edit using desktop tools.
- Skilled in Microsoft Office, iNews, and major social media platforms.
- Must be adaptable to work flexible hours under tight deadlines, including breaking news; capable of working beyond scheduled shifts with little or no notice, if required.
- Interested candidates must submit a resume/CV through the appropriate channels.
- Willingness to work in a hybrid environment.
Desired Attributes:
- Ability to capture digital video and/or still images.
- Strong journalistic writing, research skills, and editorial judgment.
- Familiarity with non-linear editing systems, particularly Avid.
- Exceptional storytelling capabilities.
- Self-motivated individual with a demonstrated interest in news and current events.
- Excellent interpersonal and organizational skills.
- Ability to manage multiple tasks and prioritize effectively.
- Understanding of NBC News Policies and Guidelines.

- Hybrid Work Model: This position has been designated as hybrid, generally requiring in-office contributions a minimum of 3 days per week.
