The Trauma Support Specialist is responsible for delivering direct assistance to individuals affected by sexual assault and other forms of violence. This role encompasses both individual and group therapy, along with the development of programs and educational initiatives focused on the impacts of trauma and violent crime.
This position typically operates during standard business hours, with potential evening commitments as necessary.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide continuous individual counseling services to victims of all ages and their family members.
- Engage in the design, execution, and facilitation of various support groups and activities tailored for children, adolescents, and adults.
- Conduct training sessions addressing the nuances of victimization for volunteers, staff, and other professionals in the community.
- Foster and maintain collaborative relationships with community resources and represent the organization at relevant local meetings and events.
- Document and maintain accurate statistics and reports for all direct service activities.
- Adhere to ethical standards as defined by the NASW, ACA, or APA Code of Ethics, based on educational background.
Qualifications:
- A Master's degree in counseling, psychology, or social work is mandatory.
- Preferred experience includes a solid understanding of the dynamics surrounding sexual assault and incest, along with suitable intervention strategies.
- A minimum of two years of post-graduate experience working with trauma survivors is required.
- Knowledge of the specific needs of victims of sexual violence and other violent crimes is essential.
- Bilingual capabilities (English/Spanish) are advantageous but not essential.
- Completion of required Advocate Training within a specified timeframe post-employment is necessary.
- All candidates must pass background clearances as mandated.
