Job Summary

The Patient Access Representative is responsible for ensuring a positive and efficient patient experience from the moment they arrive at Sentara Northern Virginia Medical Center. This role involves verifying patient identity, collecting demographic and insurance information, and admitting patients in a timely and accurate manner.

Key Responsibilities
  • Verify patient identity and select the correct patient record
  • Review schedules and physician orders to register patients for the appropriate service
  • Scan important documents such as insurance cards, ID's, Living Wills, and POAs and verify and enter patient demographic and insurance information in the electronic health record
  • Explain and complete complex regulatory and compliance documents and adhere to all applicable privacy and compliance standards
  • Collect co-payments, deposits, and outstanding balances and perform transactions securely
  • Provide exceptional customer service and ensure patients arrive at the correct service area at the right time
Requirements
  • Two years of customer service and/or data entry experience required
  • Six months of previous healthcare experience a plus
  • Associate's or Bachelor's degree can be considered in lieu of two years of experience
  • Knowledge of third party payers, ICD-9/CPT coding and medical terminology preferred
