Job Summary

The Patient Access Representative is responsible for verifying patient identity, reviewing schedules and physician orders, and registering patients for the appropriate service. They will also scan important documents, verify and enter demographic and insurance information, and explain and complete regulatory and compliance documents.

During the registration process, the Patient Access Representative will greet patients and families, answer questions, and ensure patients arrive at the correct service area at the right time. They will also perform scheduling, pre-admission, and discharge duties, and provide supervision and patient information updates to families in waiting rooms.

Requirements include two years of customer service and/or data entry experience, with six months of previous healthcare experience preferred. Associate's or Bachelor's degree can be considered in lieu of two years of experience. Knowledge of third-party payers, ICD-9/CPT coding, and medical terminology is also preferred.

Extensive training is provided for entry-level candidates, and opportunities for advancement are available.

Responsibilities:

  • Verify patient identity and select the correct patient record
  • Review schedules and physician orders to register patients for the appropriate service
  • Scan important documents, such as insurance cards, ID's, Living Wills, and POAs
  • Verify and enter demographic and insurance information in the electronic health record
  • Explain and complete complex regulatory and compliance documents
  • Collect co-payments, deposits, and outstanding balances
  • Perform scheduling, pre-admission, and discharge duties
  • Provide supervision and patient information updates to families in waiting rooms

Requirements:

  • Two years of customer service and/or data entry experience
