Job Description

Passion for Life, Inc. is seeking a highly skilled and experienced professional to serve as the Board Chair. This is a critical leadership role that requires a strong understanding of governance, strategic planning, and fundraising.

Key Responsibilities
  • Strategic Leadership
    • Provide visionary leadership to the organization and its Board, ensuring maximum impact for stakeholders.
    • Ensure board members fulfill their duties and responsibilities for effective governance.
    • Develop and implement a strategic plan to advance the organization's vision, mission, and objectives.
    • Promote fundraising, sustainability, and growth.
  • Governance
    • Ensure governance arrangements are working effectively for the organization.
    • Develop and implement succession planning for the Board of Directors and committees.
    • Guide and ensure policies and processes are developed and implemented to ensure organizational effectiveness.
    • Develop and implement sound and compliant financial management practices.
  • Fund Development
    • Collaborate with the Executive Director to develop and lead financial campaigns and revenue streams.
    • Develop and implement sound and target fundraising goals.
    • Meet with donors and corporate supporters to seek financial donations.
    • Develop and maintain beneficial relationships with donors, funders, supporters, collaborators, allies, vendors, and other stakeholders.
  • External Relations
    • Act as an ambassador for the organization.
    • Maintain close relationships with key members of the community and with key influencers.
    • Act as a spokesperson for the organization when appropriate.
  • Leadership
    • Chair meetings of the Board members effectively and efficiently.
    • Ensure board members are fully engaged and decisions are taken in the best interests of the organization.
    • Foster and maintain constructive relationships with and between board members.
    • Work closely with the Vice-Chair and Executive Director to give direction to Board policy-making.
  • Relationship with the Executive Director and the Wider Management Team
    • Establish and build a strong, effective, and constructive working relationship with the Executive Director.
    • Ensure regular contact with the Executive Director and develop and maintain an open and supportive relationship.
    • Liaise with the Executive Director to maintain an overview of the organization's affairs.
    Qualifications
    • Demonstrate a strong and visible passion and commitment to the organization, its strategic objectives, and cause.
    • Ability to commit time to conduct the role well, including attending events out of office hours.
    • Goal and results-oriented.
    • Exhibit strong interpersonal and relationship-building abilities and be comfortable in an ambassadorial role.
    • Strong networking capabilities that can be utilized for the benefit of the organization.
    • Ability to foster and promote a collaborative team environment.
    Experience
    • Extensive professional experience with significant executive leadership accomplishments.
    • Demonstrated success as a nonprofit board member or board.
    • Track record of building credibility in the funding community that has resulted in major gifts to a nonprofit.
    • Experience of external representation, delivering presentations, and managing stakeholders.
    • Proven track records of results with fundraising, strategic planning, and team development.
