The City of Torrance is seeking a TECHNOLOGY SYSTEMS ANALYST to join the Communications & Information Technology Department Team

Department Overview
The Communications & Information Technology Department is a progressive technical organization that swiftly adapts to the evolving needs of the City. This department oversees the administration and maintenance of the City's communication and computing network, software applications, hardware infrastructure, desktop systems, and mobile communication devices for various departments. CIT is responsible for managing a diverse range of business applications and ensuring the security and integrity of all data within our network.

Position Overview
The IT Network Support Unit is responsible for the upkeep, testing, monitoring, security, and troubleshooting of all centralized server IT hardware and software. As a member of the IT Network Support team, the Technology Systems Analyst will manage email accounts, internet access, and server operations. Collaborating with the Systems Analyst, this role involves working closely with telecommunications and IT professionals to implement new systems, enhance existing networks, and resolve technical issues. Additionally, this position will address complex maintenance and provide technical support for all centralized IT hardware and software, while also contributing to the overall analysis and design of network operations within the City.

Technology Systems Analysts play a crucial role in evaluating client needs for both new and existing systems, making informed recommendations, and designing systems that enhance the automation of City processes and improve productivity.

QUALIFICATION GUIDELINES

Candidates should possess a combination of education and experience that demonstrates the required knowledge and skills, including:

- An Associate's degree in Data Processing, Computer Sciences, or a related certification;
- A minimum of three years of relevant experience in technical computer support, with at least two years of professional experience in managing computer equipment and network software.

Successful candidates will exhibit the following qualifications:
  • Experience managing Microsoft 365 applications, including Exchange Online, Entra ID, SharePoint, OneDrive, and Teams;
  • Experience with server hardware in an enterprise setting, including data center maintenance and server installation;
  • Experience overseeing virtualized platform clusters, such as Microsoft Hyper-V or VMWare vSphere;
  • Experience with network equipment including routers, switches, firewalls, and wireless access points;
  • Experience in managing Windows Server environments, including Active Directory and Group Policy;
  • Experience with backup solutions and disaster recovery processes;
  • Knowledge of security protocols and experience with EDR solutions;
  • Proficiency in scripting languages, particularly PowerShell;
  • Certifications in Microsoft 365, Azure, or Cisco are advantageous;
  • Ability to provide technical guidance and training to end-users;
  • Capability to research and assess new technologies, presenting recommendations effectively;
  • Self-motivated with a passion for continuous learning;
  • Strong communication skills, both oral and written;
  • A collaborative approach and ability to work well within a team;
  • Experience conducting security audits to protect systems and equipment.
