Job Summary

The Advanced Practice Provider Neurovascular Specialist will play a critical role in facilitating a quality hospital experience and outcome for patients within the Neurointerventional Radiology and Vascular Neurology team at LifeSpan.

Key Responsibilities
  • Manage a caseload of patients in partnership with the healthcare team to optimize health status and coordinate care over time and across healthcare settings.
  • Oversee care coordination in acute, home care, and ambulatory care settings as feasible.
  • Assist the healthcare team to achieve mutually agreed-upon healthcare goals by providing necessary support, education, and encouragement.
  • Provide direct care to patients in acute care settings and perform advanced practice skills under the supervision of the Medical Director.
  • Participate in the education, clinical research, and mentoring of healthcare providers.
  • Facilitate patient/family education in the area of expertise.
  • Annually complete mandatory safety, infection control, BLS, and ACLS/PALS training.
Specialized Responsibilities
  • Respond to all code Strokes (inpatient and ED) and understand the role of acute revascularization therapies (IV and IA) in the care of these patients.
  • Obtain and maintain NIHSS certification.
  • Obtain and maintain certification for Modified Rankin Scores.
  • Communicate and coordinate the hyperacute care of these patients with ED Neurology & NIR.
  • Obtain consent and perform pre-procedure evaluation if the patient is going to NIR.
  • Off-hours begin NIR preparing room for the procedure.
  • APP will scrub and participate in the procedure, including other aspects of the VIR case.
  • Assist Neurology resident with admission H&P orders if needed.
  • Assist in hyper-acute MRI process when indicated.
Requirements
  • Masters of Science Degree from an accredited Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant program.
  • Specialty certification required for Nurse Practitioners.
  • Baccalaureate in Nursing.
  • Certified in Basic Cardiac Life Support (BLS) and Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS).
  • One to two years related experience as an APP in an acute care hospital setting.
Working Conditions

The work performed will primarily be in three locations: The Emergency Department Stroke Service and in Neurointerventional Radiology.
