Role Summary:
The Advanced Practice Nurse Anesthetist (APN) operates within the Surgical service line, delivering comprehensive anesthetic care to patients undergoing surgical procedures. This is a full-time position requiring 40 hours of work per week.
The APN collaborates with a multidisciplinary healthcare team to enhance the quality of care provided to veterans, addressing the diverse needs of patients from young adults to the elderly, while considering their medical, psychological, spiritual, and cultural backgrounds.
Key Responsibilities:
- Conduct thorough perioperative assessments and evaluations to formulate tailored anesthetic plans for surgical patients.
- Ensure safe recovery from anesthesia and manage pain relief in the immediate postoperative phase.
- Adhere to established policies, standards of care, and best practices while delivering care to surgical patients.
- Maintain confidentiality of all patient information obtained during the course of duties.
- Engage in effective communication with Physicians, Managers, and other healthcare professionals using strong interpersonal skills.

Additional Information:
This position is in the Excepted Service and establishes a standing register of eligible applicants. The role is covered by a special rate and may require narrative responses to knowledge, skills, and abilities (KSAs) from the selected candidate.
Qualifications:
Applicants must have a master's or doctoral degree in nurse anesthesia from an accredited institution. All candidates must maintain an active, unrestricted license to practice as a Certified Nurse Anesthetist (CNA) and hold current certification from the National Board of Certification and Recertification for Nurse Anesthetists (NBCRNA) or an equivalent recognized certification.
