Overview:

The Psychiatric Advanced Practice Manager (APM) operates under the guidance of the Director of the Center for Professional Practice Innovation and Nursing Research (CPPI). This role is essential in aligning nursing practices with evidence-based information and outcomes that are sensitive to nursing.

The APM is dedicated to the planning, design, and implementation of tailored care programs for both individual patients and broader populations. Through research, education, and leadership, the APM plays a vital role in enhancing clinical excellence in patient care.


Key Responsibilities:


The APM's duties encompass:
- Engaging in initiatives focused on improving nurse and patient outcomes, which may involve gathering and analyzing critical data to support evidence-based initiatives and develop effective strategies to address gaps in nursing practice.
- Collaborating on quality improvement efforts and interdisciplinary practice modifications, including auditing safety protocols and developing guidelines.

Contributing to Hospital Quality Objectives:
- The APM will concentrate on creating and implementing strategic interventions that enhance the quality of nursing practice.
- Participating in unit-based or organization-wide initiatives, such as new equipment rollouts and annual educational programs, while also engaging in professional development plans linked to nursing engagement and satisfaction surveys.

Supporting New Hires and Preceptors:

- In partnership with clinical management, the APM will regularly follow up with preceptors and newly hired nurses to offer support, guidance, and assess their readiness for independent practice.

The APM collaborates with the clinical management team on recruitment and retention strategies and supports nursing professionals in achieving national specialty certification.
- Provides expert clinical consultation and serves as a resource for nurses and nurse leaders regarding clinical practice challenges.
- Aids in the development of the CPPI departmental strategic plan in alignment with organizational goals.

Fosters collaboration with interprofessional leadership across the system to ensure high-quality nursing practice and patient experiences.

The APM leads, mentors, and supports research and quality improvement projects at all organizational levels, sharing findings through departmental publications and presentations.
- Maintains up-to-date knowledge and engages in professional development relevant to this role, which may include certifications and other growth opportunities.

Additional Information:


Must hold a Registered Nurse license in the State of Rhode Island or in accordance with the Nurse Licensure Compact agreement.


Qualifications:

Education:
Master's degree in Nursing with a focus on clinical practice, nursing education, or nursing administration is required. Internal candidates enrolled in a Master's program with relevant clinical experience may also be considered.
Current licensure to practice in Rhode Island is required; APRN license or advanced certification is preferred.

Experience:
A minimum of three years of relevant psychiatric clinical experience is necessary.

Demonstrated exceptional interpersonal skills, including strong written and verbal communication abilities, along with creative problem-solving skills in a culturally diverse environment.

Capable of facilitating group processes and working collaboratively within an interdisciplinary team. Membership in relevant professional and/or specialty organizations is advantageous.
Ability to conceptualize, develop, and implement quality nursing services with a commitment to continuous improvement is essential.

Maintains expertise in the field to address inquiries and provide strategic direction for evidence-based and quality innovations. Proficient in utilizing clinical information and decision support tools, as well as understanding statistical methods and metrics to set goals and evaluate clinical performance and quality outcomes.

Proficient in computer applications including Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.

Work Environment and Physical Requirements:
Ability to sit, stand, and walk intermittently throughout the day. Exposure to patient care environments is expected, with minimized hazards through adherence to established safety protocols. Supervisory responsibilities are included.

Independent Action:
Operates independently within departmental policies and practices, demonstrating initiative and achieving objectives with minimal supervision.
