Job Overview

Summary:
The Critical Care Advanced Practice Leader is accountable to the Director or Administrative Director, working in partnership with the Clinical Manager to strategize, design, and execute patient-centered and population-focused care programs. This role emphasizes clinical excellence and encompasses responsibilities as a consultant, educator, leader, and researcher to ensure high-quality nursing care and favorable patient outcomes. The position adheres to the guidelines set forth by the American Nurses Association regarding Nursing Administration and Professional Development Scope and Standards, anchoring nursing practice in evidence-based information and nurse-sensitive outcomes.

Key Responsibilities:
1. Serve as a clinical consultant/practitioner for the healthcare team, addressing basic, complex, and advanced nursing practices within the designated area.

2. Monitor and assess nursing practices to ensure alignment with national standards, evidence-based information, and nurse-sensitive outcomes.

3. Collaborate with the Clinical Manager to develop departmental quality plans and set objectives that align with the hospital's overarching initiatives and new program developments. Strive for excellence in core measures, including the National Database of Nursing Quality Indicators (NDNQI) and compliance with The Joint Commission (TJC) standards.

4. Engage with multidisciplinary team members to create innovative programs and strengthen relationships that support the adoption and sustainability of new practices.

5. Facilitate improvements in patient care through systematic assessment and evaluation of evidence-based practices. Conduct ongoing quality audits to identify trends and assist Clinical Managers with data-related issues.

6. Review and critically analyze current professional literature to select relevant research findings that enhance patient safety and quality improvement initiatives.

7. Utilize clinical expertise to guide staff in implementing evidence-based practice changes and assist in the development of evidence-based projects and research.

8. Partner with the Clinical Manager in recruitment activities, performance evaluations, and corrective action plans.

9. Monitor the progress of new employees during their orientation period and assess the ongoing educational needs of nursing staff.

10. Collaborate with the Center for Professional Practice Development to ensure compliance with certification competencies and continuing education standards.

Additional Information:
Licensure as a Registered Nurse in the State of Rhode Island or in accordance with the Nurse Licensure Compact agreement is required.

Qualifications - Education:
Bachelor's and Master's Degrees in Nursing are required, along with relevant clinical experience. Certification as a Clinical Nurse Specialist (CNS), Clinical Nurse Leader (CNL), or Nurse Practitioner (NP) is preferred.

Qualifications - Experience:
A minimum of three years of relevant clinical experience is required, demonstrating strong leadership, teaching, and communication skills. Candidates should exhibit exceptional written and oral communication abilities and a commitment to continuous quality improvement.

Supervision:
Shared supervisory responsibilities with Assistant Clinical Managers and Clinical Managers for a team of up to 120 FTEs.
