The Athletic Communications Graduate Assistant plays a vital role in overseeing all aspects of athletic communications and event operations for multiple sports programs. This position serves as the primary liaison for designated sports, contributing to digital media initiatives, capturing official statistics, crafting game summaries, and generating content for the athletics website. The role is part-time and spans twelve months.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Support the Director of Athletic Communications in managing the Athletics Department website and various social media channels, creating diverse content including written articles, graphics, and multimedia.
  • Assist in promoting the athletics program through writing, editing, and distributing press releases; managing social media accounts across platforms such as Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, and YouTube; editing promotional videos; and designing game day materials.
  • Oversee in-house broadcasts, including setup, live production, and equipment teardown.
  • Facilitate real-time social media engagement and score reporting during events as directed.
  • Communicate with media outlets to secure coverage and feature stories on student-athletes and teams.
  • Assist in preparing applications for MEC, regional, and national awards to honor coaches and student-athletes.
  • Contribute to the development of game-day scripts for broadcasters, ensuring sponsor recognition.
  • Travel with selected teams to postseason competitions as assigned.
  • Record official statistics for various sports using NCAA Genius or Stat Crew software.
  • Report game times and results to relevant conferences and associations.
  • Help maintain and update historical records and statistics on the athletics website.
  • Update biographical information for student-athletes, coaches, and administrative staff.
  • Coordinate headshots, team photos, and game day graphics for all sports programs.
  • Take a proactive role in enhancing the athletic department's image and brand.
  • Collaborate with the university's marketing and communications office on athletic-related news and events.
  • Work with senior leadership and the Sports Business Program to establish a robust student intern program.
  • Assist in organizing the annual Hall of Fame Celebration, ensuring inductee information is accurate and current.
  • Collaborate with stakeholders to manage the strategic direction of live video streaming initiatives.
General Responsibilities:
  • Maintain confidentiality and professionalism when discussing university operations.
  • Comply with all relevant policies, including FERPA, Title IX, Title VII, and HIPAA.
  • Follow the guidelines outlined in the Employee Handbook and the athletic department's manual.
  • Participate in professional development opportunities offered by the Athletic Department and University.
  • Adhere to university policies regarding travel, reimbursements, and vehicle use.
  • Seek out networking opportunities for professional growth.
  • Develop strategies to enhance collaboration among the various athletic programs.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned by the Vice President and Director of Athletics.
Qualifications:
  • 3-5 years of experience in Athletics Communication at the Division II level is preferred.
  • A Bachelor's Degree is required.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills are essential.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, Adobe Creative Cloud, StatCrew, NCAA Genius, and related software is necessary.
  • Familiarity with Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, InDesign), Daktronics equipment, and live streaming technology is advantageous.
  • Understanding of NCAA Rules and Regulations is required.
  • Must be a problem solver, adaptable, efficient, and detail-oriented.
  • Willingness to travel and work flexible hours, including nights and weekends.
  • Appreciation for the mission of college athletics is essential.
