You will engage in challenging projects, guided by a mentor who will encourage you to explore solutions, take initiative, and develop a comprehensive understanding of Daktronics’ products and practices. Key Responsibilities:
As a Mechanical Engineer Student, you will have the opportunity to gain experience in various areas, including:

  • Conceptualizing and designing ideas using Creo.
  • Creating prototypes through 3D printing, sheet metal forming, and other techniques.
  • Collaborating effectively within a team, managing your workload efficiently, and providing assistance as needed.
  • Communicating clearly with team members and clients.
  • Proposing enhancements for designs, processes, and products.
  • Consistently adhering to scheduled hours and being open to additional hours when required.
  • Performing other tasks as necessary to support business objectives.

Available Opportunities:
Depending on business needs and personal interests, you may explore roles in:

  • Manufacturing Process Engineering:
    • Suggesting process enhancements to optimize product flow and overseeing the implementation of lean manufacturing principles.
    • Collaborating with Engineering on significant product modifications.
    • Managing the execution of incremental product improvements through ECO process recommendations.
    • Assisting in the development of prototype cabinet designs for feedback and effectiveness evaluation.
    • Supporting the construction of workstations and related tools, gathering feedback for improvement.
  • Mechanical Design:
    • Facilitating product development throughout its lifecycle, from initial design to production.
    • Creating precise design drawings and documentation in Creo, assisting Engineers with drafting and BOM routing.
    • Documenting and verifying components in Creo.
    • Assembling and testing prototypes, including structural, thermal, and reliability assessments.
    • Preparing detailed drawings of sub-assemblies and components.
    • Coordinating the manufacturing of systems on a project basis.
    • Assisting with installations as needed.

Compensation:
The typical pay range for this position is between $20.00 and $22.00 per hour, with actual offers considering various factors such as education, experience, and local regulations.

Qualifications:

  • Must be enrolled as a student with a minimum of 12 credits.
  • Preferred candidates are pursuing a Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, or a related field.
  • Ideal applicants are in their sophomore or junior year.
  • Strong academic performance is essential, with a preference for a GPA of 3.0 or higher.
  • Unofficial transcripts must accompany the application.

Additional Requirements:

  • Availability to work 15-20 hours per week during the academic year and up to 40 hours during the summer.
  • Experience with AutoCAD is required; familiarity with Creo is preferred.
  • Knowledge of general drafting practices is advantageous.
  • Strong computer skills and effective communication abilities are essential.
  • Fluency in English, both written and verbal, is required.
  • Physical requirements include the ability to operate equipment, lift up to 45 lbs, and stand for extended periods.
